Western Carolina Betting Preview

Western Carolina could only muster a 4-8 record over their first dozen games this year, then hit a 2-2 stretch with wins over Furman and East Tennessee State. The next six games were a 2-4 stretch with wins over only VMI and East Tennessee State. Otherwise the losses were to Chattanooga, Mercer, Samford and UNC Greensboro. That gives WCU an 8-14 record through 22 games this year.

In the UNC Greensboro game on Wednesday the Catamounts went into the locker room with a 42-36 deficit on their hands. Western Carolina got better from there on a 42-39 run in the second half but couldn’t make the comeback on the road in a defeat 81-78. Marcus Kell was the leading team scorer on 27 points with seven rebounds and Tahlan Pettway had 14 points with three boards.

Wofford Terriers Betting Preview

Over on the Wofford side, they logged a middling 7-5 record in their first dozen games but then took out Union KY, Western Carolina, the Citadel and UNC Greensboro. After a couple more losses the Terriers have since hit a 5-1 run with wins over Furman, Samford, Mercer, Chattanooga and VMI. In 22 outings this year so far the Terriers have mustered a 16-8 overall record.

Matched up against VMI on Wednesday the Terriers took a commanding lead by the break 44-27. Wofford was outscored 40-37 the rest of the way but still held on for the double-digit win 81-67 in the end on the road. Cayden Vasko put up 26 points with nine rebounds and five assists while Nils Machowski had 15 points with 11 rebounds for a double-double.

Western Carolina vs Wofford Prediction

I’ll stick with Wofford. The Terriers didn’t have a ton of difficulties in a road win versus a struggling VMI team this week, shooting 45.6 percent from the field with a 37-32 rebounding advantage, a 30-24 edge on points in the paint and just eight turnovers. Wofford is 5-1 in their last six games, scoring 72 or more points in all six of those outings and 80 or more in four of the five wins.

These teams last met up back on New Year’s Eve in a 79-74 road win for the Terriers. In that one Wofford was out-rebounded 41-32 and had a 36-28 deficit in the paint while shooting a tepid 69.6 percent (16-of-23) at the line. The Terriers held WCU to just 37.5 percent shooting from the field however, which helped spur their road victory. Wofford has the inside track on a cover in the home rematch but they’ve got to play better this time.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Wofford Terriers -5.5
