Vermont Catamounts Betting Preview
Vermont opened the year on a nice run but they’ve since been sputtering. The Catamounts won their first four games in a row, taking out Western New England, Plattsburgh State, Brown and Northeastern. A 1-4 run ensued as Vermont closed out the month, though. The lone win in that time was versus Princeton; otherwise it was losses to Buffalo, Liberty, Rhode Island and Yale. In the month of November that gave the Catamounts a 5-4 overall record.
On Wednesday versus Oregon State, the Catamounts were blown out 80-58 at Gill Coliseum. Vermont had just one starter finish in double figures: Gus Yalden with 16 points and three rebounds in 24 minutes. Ben Johnson came off the bench to provide 12 points and three rebounds with one steal in 18 minutes of work during the losing effort for Vermont.
Pepperdine Waves Betting Preview
Over on the Pepperdine side, they didn’t start out too badly themselves but they’ve struggled as well lately. The Waves were 3-2 in their first five games, taking losses to UCLA and Northern Colorado alongside wins over Life Pacific, Lincoln University CA and New Orleans during that stretch. Pepperdine has since lost four straight though, falling to Stephen F. Austin, Fresno State, Cal State Fullerton and Abilene Christian along the way. Through nine games so far this year that gives the Waves a 3-6 overall record.
Matched up against Abilene Christian on Tuesday, the Waves came out of the break with a seven-point deficit. Abilene Christian got better in the second half but still lost 71-63 in the end. Tops in scoring was Styles Phipps with 19 points, four rebounds and four assists. Aaron Clark added 11 points with five rebounds and five assists as the only other player on the team to finish in double-digits.

Vermont vs Pepperdine Prediction
I’ll probably stick with Pepperdine, but I’m also probably avoiding this one. The Waves are coming off another loss versus a reasonably decent Abilene Christian team, shooting 42.2 percent from the field with a 28-24 rebounding deficit and 13 team assists. Pepperdine has failed to hit 70 points in each installment of this current four-game losing streak, and they’ve been below 64 points in three of those. It’d be nice to see the Waves find some offense here, but that may be a bit of a stretch.
As for Vermont, they got blitzed by a middling Oregon State team in their last outing thanks to just 35 percent shooting from the field. The Catamounts allowed 51 percent shooting on the other side, but did stay on top in rebounding 33-31 and on points in the paint 26-16. Vermont has been on a 1-5 skid over the last six games, giving up 74 or more points in all six of those outings.
