Vanderbilt Commodores Betting Preview

The Commodores were looking great back in early January but since then they’ve faltered amid some tougher matchups. Vanderbilt won 13 of their first 14 games though, falling to only Drake in that time. The Commodores would then hit a 4-8 stretch with wins over South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Texas mixed among losses to Mississippi State, Missouri, Alabama, Oklahoma, Florida, Auburn, Tennessee, and Kentucky in that time. Following wins over Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and Missouri in the next trio, the Commodores took a loss to Arkansas. That gives Vanderbilt a 20-10 overall record across the first 30 games of the year.

In the Arkansas matchup on Tuesday, the Commodores were down by six at the break. Vanderbilt was outscored 47-40 from there and ended up falling 90-77. Tops in scoring was Tyler Nickel with 16 points, three rebounds, and two steals. AJ Hoggard added 14 points with five rebounds and seven assists, while Devin McGlockton chipped in 12 points, three rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block in 19 minutes during the defeat.

Georgia Bulldogs Betting Preview

Over on the Georgia side, they had an ugly run in January and February but outside of that, they’ve done well this year. The Bulldogs only lost two of their first 16 outings, falling to Marquette and Ole Miss along the way. Georgia would win just two games over South Carolina and LSU in the next 11 appearances though, otherwise falling to Tennessee, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Missouri, and Auburn again in that stretch. Since then, however, Georgia has recovered with three straight wins over Florida, Texas, and South Carolina. That gives the team a 19-11 record in 30 games this year.

Matched up against South Carolina on Tuesday, the Bulldogs came out of the locker room with a 40-29 advantage. Georgia cruised the rest of the way on 33 more points and finished with a 73-64 win in the end. Topping the scorers during the victory was Silas Demary with 16 points, four assists, and eight boards. Blue Cain added 14 points with seven rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Asa Newell chipped in 11 points with two rebounds in 33 minutes as well.

Why the Georgia Bulldogs will win

  • Georgia has won 15 of its last 16 games against non-AP-ranked opponents.
  • Vanderbilt has lost six of its last seven road games against the Southeastern Conference.
  • Vanderbilt has lost the first half in five of its last six games at Stegeman Coliseum.

Why the Vanderbilt Commodores will win

  • Georgia has lost each of its last 11 day games against Conference opponents.
  • Vanderbilt has won 14 of its last 17 day games.
  • Georgia has lost the first half in four of its last five day games against Conference opponents.

Vanderbilt vs Georgia Prediction

I’m staying with the Bulldogs. They posted a nice road win over South Carolina this week, hitting 48.1 percent from the field with a 37-23 rebounding advantage and just eight turnovers. Georgia held the Gamecocks to just 37.3 percent shooting on the other side as well. During this current three-game win streak, the Bulldogs have scored 73 or more points in all three outings and 83 or more in two of them.

As for Vanderbilt, they couldn’t quite keep pace with a pretty good Arkansas team in their latest home defeat. The Commodores hit just 38.3 percent from the field in that one and got out-rebounded 42-31 alongside 14 turnovers. The defeat halts a three-game win streak for Vanderbilt but maintains their run of 77 or more points in four straight games. This weekend’s matchup should be a pretty good one, but I like Georgia to power it out at home in the end. It’ll be a fun one to watch regardless.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Georgia Bulldogs -3.5
