Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks Betting Preview

The Skyhawks have looked pretty good so far this year. TN-Martin opened with wins over UNLV, Kentucky Christian and Bradley. The next three games were a 1-2 run with a win over Prairie View in between losses to Florida State and Southern Miss. After that came consecutive wins over Brescia and Charleston Southern. That would give the Skyhawks a 6-2 overall record through their first eight outings.

In the Sunday game versus Alabama State, TN-Martin opened up with a 35-30 deficit in the first. The Skyhawks rallied from there on a 44-29 run though, and took the win 74-64 in comeback fashion. Andrija Bukumirovic doubled up in the victory with 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Matas Deniusas added 15 points. Damien King put up 14 points with seven rebounds in 22 minutes as well.

Southern Illinois Salukis Betting Preview

Over on the Salukis’ side, they won their first pair over McKendree and Kansas City. A 1-4 run came next though, as Southern Illinois beat only Delaware amid losses to Nevada, North Dakota State, UAB and Memphis. The Salukis have since won consecutive games though, taking out Little Rock and High Point in that pair. That gives Southern Illinois a 5-4 run across their first nine outings this season so far.

In the High Point game last Wednesday, the Salukis were in trouble with a 46-34 deficit at the break. Southern Illinois surged on a 52-38 run from there though, taking the comeback win in the end 86-84. Damien Mayo led the way on 22 points with five rebounds and Drew Steffe had 18 points with seven assists and four rebounds. Prince Aligbe chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds in the winning effort as well.

Tennessee-Martin vs Southern Illinois Prediction

I’ll stick with TN-Martin. The Skyhawks started slowly against a struggling Alabama State team over the weekend but finished strong on 42.9 percent shooting and a 40-29 rebounding edge. TN-Martin wasn’t great from the line though (11-of-23 for 47.8 percent). That makes three straight wins for the Skyhawks, and they’ve scored 73 or more points in each one of those victories as well.

As for Southern Illinois, they get credit for a nice comeback road win over a good High Point team in their last outing. The Salukis shot 49.3 percent from the field in that one with 10-of-22 (45.5 percent) from outside and a 39-32 rebounding edge. Southern Illinois came up with 20 team assists and 40 points in the paint as well. The Salukis are scoring pretty well overall this year and could give the Skyhawks some trouble if they play to their capabilities.

Andrew Jett's Pick: TN-Martin Skyhawks +11
