UNC Wilmington Seahawks Betting Preview
The Seahawks had a nice run over their first dozen games of the season. UNC Wilmington lost to only Kent State and Howard in that time. After that came a win streak over Columbia College SC, North Carolina A&T, Drexel, Hampton, Northeastern, Stony Brook and Campbell in the next seven outings. Across the first 19 games of the season, the Seahawks were sitting at 17-2 overall.
On Thursday versus William & Mary, the Seahawks were down pretty significantly at halftime, looking up at a 42-28 deficit. UNC Wilmington came back on a 42-35 run from there but it wasn’t enough in a 77-70 road loss. The Seahawks were led by Patrick Wessler on 15 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double. Madison Durr added 15 points and four boards in the losing effort.

Over on the Hampton side, they posted a rough 2-5 record over their first seven outings. Things got better from there however, as the Pirates beat MD Eastern Shore, Apprentice School, Loyola MD, Jackson State, Stony Brook and Towson in the next eight. After losses to UNC Wilmington, Campbell and Charleston, the Pirates beat North Carolina A&T. That gave the team a 9-10 record through 19 games.
Matched up against Monmouth in Thursday’s game, the Pirates were up 34-30 going into the second half. Hampton played a tight run 31-33 from there but still managed to hang on for the eventual home win 65-63. UNC Wilmington vs Hampton Prediction
I’ll lean toward the Seahawks I suppose. UNC Wilmington could use a shot in the arm after a pretty listless loss on the road to William & Mary, though. In that one the Seahawks shot just 32.8 percent from the field with 14 turnovers and a 30-18 deficit on points in the paint. UNCW had won seven straight games prior to that however, and they’ve still got 70 or more points in four straight outings.
These teams last saw each other back on January 3 in a low-scoring 49-45 home win for the Seahawks. In that one UNC Wilmington shot just 39 percent from the field and 19 percent (3-of-16) from 3-point range alongside an ugly 8-of-21 (38 percent) from the line in a bad offensive outing. The Seahawks were saved by Hampton’s 32 percent shooting and their own 43-37 advantage on the boards. UNCW needs a major, major offensive improvement in the road rematch.
