Over on the Indiana State side, they were only able to win eight of their first 14 games, then hit an ugly 1-8 stretch over the next nine (with a lone win over Illinois State). After a win over Evansville, the Sycamores have since fallen to Southern Illinois, Murray State, Valparaiso, Northern Iowa, Belmont and Southern Illinois in succession for a 10-20 overall run this year.
Matched up against Southern Illinois in their latest outing, the Sycamores came off the floor in the first half with a 36-23 deficit. Indiana State hit a 32-30 run the rest of the way but it wasn’t nearly enough to prevent the double-digit loss 66-55 on the road. Xavier Hall was the only team player to finish in double-digits with 13 points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal.

I’m going to take a stab on UIC. The Flames were able to eke past a pesky Bradley squad this week, but it took a couple of overtime periods to get there. UIC shot 51.7 percent from the field in that one with 47.8 percent (11-of-23) from outside and a 36-30 advantage on points in the paint. The Flames have won four of the last five games, scoring 80 or more points in all of the victories during that stretch.
The Flames were able to power out a 76-74 victory on their home court the last time these teams met up back on January 27. In that one UIC shot 45.8 percent from the field with nine turnovers and 40 points in the paint. UIC gave up a whopping 52.6 percent from the field on defense though, and got outmuscled on the boards 33-25. The Flames may have a road test here but if they play to their capabilities I think UIC will be okay.
