UConn Huskies Betting Preview

UConn has done pretty well so far this year; they’ve only got one blemish on the card. The Huskies were able to record wins in each of their first four games, taking out New Haven, UMass Lowell, Columbia and BYU in that time. After a loss to Arizona by four points, the Huskies have since beaten Bryant and Illinois. That gives UConn a 6-1 record across seven games so far this season.

In the Illinois matchup back on Friday, the Huskies were up 43-32 by halftime. UConn kept it up  from there on 31 more points and took the win in the end 74-61. Solo Ball led the team with 15 points and five rebounds, while Malachi Smith had 14 points, nine assists and two rebounds. Alex Karaban added 12 points with nine rebounds and five assists in 36 minutes during the victory for the Huskies as well.

Kansas Jayhawks Betting Preview

Over on the Jayhawks’ side, they’ve had a pretty solid year so far themselves with just two losses to ranked teams. Kansas went 3-1 in their first four with a lone defeat by North Carolina amid wins over Green Bay, Texas A&M-CC and Princeton. After another loss to Duke, the Jayhawks have since beaten Notre Dame, Syracuse and Tennessee in succession. Over eight games so far the Jayhawks have a 6-2 record overall.

Matched up against Tennessee last Wednesday the Jayhawks went into the second half with a 41-34 deficit. Kansas turned it on from there and hit a 47-35 run that resulted in a comeback win 81-76. Melvin Council led the way on 17 points, six boards and four assists while Elmarko Jackson had 17 points with four rebounds. Tre White had 14 points with six boards, and Flory Bidunga added 13 points, seven rebounds and two assists.

UConn vs Kansas Prediction

I’ll stick with UConn in this one. You could certainly call it either way, though. The Huskies are for real; they’ve got a couple of very nice wins in the bag already. The latest came versus a good Illinois team, and UConn held the Illini to just 31.7 percent shooting from the field and 20.7 percent (6-of-29) from outside in a double-digit victory there. The Huskies shot a tepid 41.3 percent from the field themselves but made up for it with 35.7 percent (10-of-28) from 3-point range and 40 rebounds. UConn has posted 72 or more points in each one of their wins so far this year.

As for Kansas, they posted a great second half in their comeback win versus Tennessee. The Jayhawks shot 42.1 percent from the field in that one but really won the game from the line on 26-of-30 (86.7 percent) there. Kansas is looking good on this three-game win streak, but they’ll have their hands full versus UConn. Good thing this is a home matchup. Anything could happen.

Andrew Jett's Pick: UConn Huskies -1.5
