Over on the West Virginia side, they went 13-6 over their first 19 games this year. The Mountaineers would then lose to Arizona, Baylor and Texas Tech during a 3-3 stretch over the next six outings. I’ll take a stab on UCF but it’s a coin flip. The Knights are coming off a disappointing overtime home loss versus Oklahoma State this week, despite shooting 45.7 percent from the field with a 50-42 edge in the paint and 38 rebounds. Central Florida gave up 48.6 percent from the field in that one and got burned by an 80 percent effort (32-of-40) from the line by the Cowboys. The Knights have lost consecutive games now, giving up a combined 198 points in that pair.
Back on Valentine’s Day when these teams last met up, the Knights took a 74-67 loss. In that game UCF shot a tepid 42.1 percent from the field with a 34-27 rebounding deficit and 13 turnovers that led to 15 Mountaineers points. The Knights did pretty well from the line (81.3 percent on 13-of-16) but so did WVU (16-of-19 for 84.2 percent). With the rematch on the road, UCF is simply going to have to play better by eliminating the mistakes.
