This year the Citadel started out on a rough 3-13 run. The Bulldogs were able to win six of the next eight though, beating Western Carolina, VMI, Furman, VMI again, UNC Greensboro and Chattanooga. After losses to Western Carolina, Mercer, Samford, Chattanooga and Furman from there, the Citadel took a win over Wofford to give the team a 10-21 overall record this year.
In the Saturday matchup with Wofford, the Bulldogs came back out onto the floor in the second half with a 39-39 tie. After a 44-44 run from there the Citadel had to go to overtime. Following the extra period, the Bulldogs eked out a 93-90 victory on the road. Sola Adebisi was tops on 27 points with three rebonds, three steals and three blocks in 44 minutes of action.
Chattanooga Mocs Betting Preview
Over on the Mocs’ side, they were 9-10 at the 19-game mark this year. Chattanooga lost to East Tennessee State, Samford, Wofford, Furman, the Citadel, East Tennessee State and Western Carolina in the next eight games, though. The Mocs have since gone 3-1 in the last four games with wins over Mercer, the Citadel and VMI. That gives the team a 13-18 record in the books.
Matched up against VMI last weekend the Mocs were sitting in the locker room with a 42-33 deficit on the scoreboard. Chattanooga hit a 46-44 run in the second half and managed to power out the 86-79 win on their home court as the game came to a close. Jordan Frison was the leading team scorer with 33 points, three rebounds and three assists in 34 minutes.
The Citadel vs Chattanooga Prediction
I’ll lean toward Chattanooga but it’s a coin flip. The Mocs shot very well (50 percent) from the field in their win over VMI last weekend, adding 34 rebounds and 13 team assists alongside just two turnovers. Chattanooga held the Keydets to just 41.9 percent shooting on defense as well. The Mocs are 3-1 in their last four games, scoring 86 or more points in all three wins and 80 or more points in all four outings total.
These teams split the season series with the road team getting a win each time: the Citadel won 78-71 on February 7 and Chattanooga took one 93-72 on February 21. In that latest outing the Mocs offense was on fire with 61.1 percent shooting from the field and 48.3 percent (14-of-29) from outside. Chattanooga had a 36-34 rebounding edge and 18 team assists but did cough up 13 turnovers for 15 Bulldogs points. If the Mocs can clean up the mistakes this time I think they’ve got a great shot. Should be a fun game regardless.
