Texas Tech Red Raiders Betting Preview

Texas Tech has been quite the consistent team so far this year, with no instances of consecutive losses. The Raiders opened the season on an 11-4 run, falling only Saint Joseph’s, Texas A&M, UCF and Iowa State in that time. A win streak came next as the Raiders took out Kansas State, Arizona, Cincinnati, Oklahoma State, TCU, Houston and Baylor. Since then it’s been a 5-3 stretch with losses to Arizona, TCU and Houston. The wins otherwise have been versus Arizona State, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Kansas and Colorado. That gives Texas Tech an overall record of 23-7 through the first 30 games of the season. 

In the Colorado matchup on Wednesday, Texas Tech went into the second half with a 45-33 edge. The Raiders kept it up in the second half with a 46-42 advantage and took the victory in the end 91-75. JT Toppin led the team on a double-double with 30 points, 14 rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block in 32 minutes. Chance McMillian added 15 points with three assists and two rebounds, while Christian Anderson had 12 points and four boards off the bench during the victory effort. 

Arizona State Sun Devils Betting Preview

Over on the Arizona State side, they were looking great back in early December but it’s been a slew of losses in some tough matchups since then. The Sun Devils started at 8-1, then took losses to Florida, BYU, Kansas, Baylor, UCF and Cincinnati over the next eight games. Arizona State would beat West Virginia and Colorado in the next trio, then lost to Arizona, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, TCU and Houston. After another win over Kansas State the Sun Devils have since taken losses to BYU, Utah and Arizona in their last trio. That gives Arizona State a 13-17 record across 30 games so far this year. 

In the Arizona matchup on the road Tuesday, the Sun Devils went into the second half with a 55-47 deficit. Arizona State didn’t get any closer than that on a 58-53 run and took the eventual loss 113-100 in the end. Tops in scoring was Alston Mason with 33 points, six assists and two steals. Joson Sanon had 19 points with five rebounds and two assists with two blocks, and Basheer Jihad had 15 points, seven rebounds and two assists in 32 minutes.

Texas Tech vs Arizona Prediction 

I’ll lean toward the Sun Devils. Arizona State put up a valiant effort in a tough road rivalry matchup against Arizona this week, but couldn’t keep pace in the end. The Sun Devils shot 46.3 percent from the field and 52.2 percent (12-of-23) from outside with just four turnovers in that one. Arizona State also allowed 59 percent shooting on the other side and got outmuscled on the boards 38-28, though. That makes 91 or more points surrendered in three straight games, but the Sun Devils are scoring pretty well themselves. 

Texas Tech has scored a combined 169 points across their last pair so Arizona State will have to step on the gas offensively in order to keep a cover pace. I think the Sun Devils can pull it off if all goes well, though.
