Temple Looks for Second Straight Win

Temple is looking for its third straight win and they have some confidence right now. Two games ago against Charlotte, they were able to secure a 90-89 victory, and in the last game against East Carolina, they were able to secure a 98-94. Even though the defense hasn’t been great in either game, the offense made the winning plays late, and that was enough to come away with a victory. Five different players put up at least 10 points. Jamal Mashburn Jr had a huge game, putting up 32 points, four assists, and two rebounds.

Temple comes into this game with a 14-8 record and they have gone 10-11 against the spread. The over has hit in 16 of the 21 games so far this season. Temple is averaging 80.2 points while their defense is giving up 76.9 points per game. The offense is ranked 51st in the league while the defense is ranked 311th. Much like the last couple of games, this is a team that can score but the defense has been an afterthought. Mashburn has been the top player this season, and he’s averaging 22.1 points while shooting 43.6 percent from the field and 44.2 percent from behind the three-point line.

Why Temple Will Beat South Florida

  • South Florida has lost three of its last four games.
  • Temple has won the first half in three of its last four night games against Conference opponents.

How Can South Florida Bounce Back?

South Florida two games ago was able to knock off Rice 69-64 and they had some momentum going into the last game. In the last game though the offense scored 72 points, but the defense gave up 94 points and that led to the defeat. At halftime, they were down 46-35 and in the second half, it got even worse as they ended up losing. South Florida only shot 32.3 percent from the field, while Florida Atlantic shot 56.1 percent from the field. That type of performance can’t happen again here. CJ Brown had a strong game putting up 15 points while Jamille Reynolds put up 15 points and 10 rebounds. The bigger concern though was the lack of playing any sort of defense.

South Florida comes into this game with an 11-11 record overall, but they have gone only 6-15 against the spread. South Florida is averaging 75.6 points while their defense is giving up 73.5 points per game. The offense is ranked 149th in the league, while the defense is ranked 241st. In this game, if they want to find success, it will need to be the defense that makes the stops. Jayden Reid is averaging 12.4 points while shooting 39.1 percent from the field and 36.88 percent from deep. Jamile Reynolds has been a good rebounder, averaging 7.4 rebounds per game.

Why South Florida Will Beat Temple

  • South Florida has won 14 of its last 15 games against Conference opponents at Yuengling Center.
  • The home team has won the first half in three of South Florida’s last four games.

Temple vs South Florida Prediction

This game is going to be a shootout. South Florida is averaging 75.6 points per game, but they get to face off against a Temple defense that hasn’t been able to slow down anyone. Speaking of not slowing down anyone, South Florida doesn’t have any type of defensive success that is going to slow down Jamal Mashburn Jr. Mashburn Jr is going to pace the Temple offense and that is going to be the difference here as this game is going to end up being a shootout. Back the over to cash here.
