St John’s is for Real
If there was any question heading into Friday’s game against the UConn Huskies if the St. John’s Red Storm were for real, there is no question now. In the second half, the defense gave up only 27 points, which was enough for the victory of 68-62. RJ Luis Jr. had a strong game, putting up 21 points, seven rebounds, and one assist. Four different players put up at least 11 points. St John’s shot 40 percent from the field but only 19 percent from behind the three-point line.
St John’s come into this game with a 21-3 record overall, and they have gone 15-8-1 against the spread. Away from home this season, they have gone 5-1. St John’s is averaging 78.5 points, while their defense is giving up 65 points per game. The offense is ranked 80th, while the defense is ranked 28th. The attention goes to the offense, but this defense has been really impressive. RJ Luis Jr has been the top player for the Red Storm, and he’s averaging 17.6 points while shooting 45.2 percent from the field and 26.4 percent from behind the three-point line. On Sunday, St John’s is going to face off against Creighton.
Why St John’s Will Beat Villanova
- St. John’s has won each of its last 13 night games.

- Villanova has lost the first half in 10 of its last 13 games against AP-ranked opponents.
Is Villanova Heating Up?
Villanova has been up and down this season, but they are coming off two straight victories. Two games ago against DePaul, Villanova won 59-49, and in the last game against Xavier, they won 80-68. Villanova scored 47 points in the second half, which was enough for a comfortable victory. Villanova shot 50.9 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the three-point line. They were a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line. Forward Eric Dixon put up 24 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
Villanova currently sits with a 14-10 record overall and they have gone 12-12 against the spread. At home straight up this season, they have gone 11-3. Villanova is averaging 75.5 points, while their defense is giving up 67.6 points per game. The offense is ranked 151st in the league while the defense is ranked 64th. Eric Dixon has been the top player, putting up 23.8 points while shooting 47.4 percent from the field. Villanova is going to need to get out to a fast start, and they are going to need a big game from Dixon here.
St John’s vs Villanova Prediction
St John’s doesn’t care if they are on the road, at home, or anywhere else; they are going to win the games. St John’s already has that comfortable victory against Villanova, and they are going to do much of the same here. St. John’s is averaging 78.5 points per game, and they are going to have no issue with running up the score here. Villanova won’t have any answer, with their defense, and St John’s is going to end up covering the spread here. This is one of my favorite plays of the day.
