The Saint John’s Red Storm and the UConn Huskies meet Wednesday in college basketball action from XL Center in Hartford. Here’s a Saint John’s vs UConn prediction. Saint John’s Red Storm Betting Preview

The Red Storm got through their first 14 games at 9-5, losing to Alabama, Iowa State, Auburn, Kentucky and Providence in that time. St. John’s has since beaten Butler, Creighton, Marquette, Villanova, Seton Hall, Xavier, Butler, DePaul, UConn, Xavier, Providence, Marquette and Creighton in succession. That makes for a 22-5 overall run in 27 games this year.

In the Creighton matchup on Saturday the Red Storm entered the second half with a 42-27 advantage. St. John’s hit a 39-25 run the rest of the way and powered out a pretty routine win on their home court in the end 81-52. Dylan Darling had 17 points with four rebounds and three steals while both Bryce Hopkins (10 rebounds) and Zuby Ejiofor (three rebounds) had 15 points apiece.

UConn Huskies Betting Preview

Over on the UConn side, they kicked off the season on a very nice run. The Huskies went a stellar 22-1 over their first 23 games, with the lone blemish being a home loss to Arizona on November 19. After that came a 3-2 run over the next five games. The Huskies took wins over Butler, Georgetown and Villanova in that time, giving the team a 25-3 overall record this year.

In the Villanova game on Saturday the Huskies were only ahead by two points 34-32 going into the second half. UConn hit a 39-31 run the rest of the way however, eventually leading to a 73-63 victory on the road as the game concluded. Topping the scorers was Alex Karaban with 12 points, five rebounds and two assists with a pair of blocks. Tarris Reed added 11 points and six rebounds.

Saint John’s vs UConn Prediction

I’ll lean toward UConn. The Huskies had a nice 54.9 percent from the field in their latest win over Villanova last weekend, adding a 32-18 rebounding advantage. The 14 turnovers were just about the only thing to complain about in that victory. UConn is now 3-1 in their last four games with 73 or more points scored in all of those.

Back on February 6 when these teams last met the Huskies took an 81-72 loss on the road. In that game UConn shot very well with 54.7 percent from the field. Trouble is, the Huskies gave up 50 percent shooting on defense and had a 29-25 rebounding deficit along with 15 turnovers. The Huskies should get a nice boost from the home setting in the rematch and I like them to take a little revenge. Should be a great game though.

Andrew Jett's Pick: UConn Huskies -4.5
