St. John’s Red Storm Betting Preview
The Storm have been a remarkably consistent team so far this year, with no consecutive losses in the books. St. John’s kicked things off with a 5-2 run, then beat Harvard, Kansas State, Bryant, DePaul, Providence, and Delaware before another loss to Creighton. Since then the Storm have lost to only Villanova. Otherwise, it’s been wins over Butler, Xavier, Villanova, Georgetown, Seton Hall, Xavier, Georgetown, Providence, Marquette, UConn, Creighton, DePaul, UConn, Butler, and Seton Hall in succession. That gives the Storm a nice 26-4 overall run through their first 30 games this season.
In the Seton Hall game last weekend, the Red Storm came out of halftime with a four-point advantage. St. John’s kept it going from there on a 37-31 run and took the win in the end 71-61. Leading the team in scoring was RJ Luis with 21 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Zuby Ejiofor added a double-double on 17 points with 10 rebounds and two blocks, while Deivon Smith chipped in 10 points, three assists, and four rebounds in the win.
Marquette Golden Eagles Betting Preview
Over on the Marquette side, they had a brief losing skid last month but they’ve been highly consistent overall otherwise. The Eagles won their first eight games, then fell to Iowa State and Dayton in a three-game stretch. Marquette would then beat Butler, Xavier, Providence, Creighton, Georgetown, and DePaul before a loss to Xavier. After three more wins the Eagles lost to UConn, St. John’s, and Creighton. Since then it’s been a 4-2 run with losses to Villanova and UConn among wins versus DePaul, Seton Hall, Providence, and Georgetown. In total that gives Marquette a 22-8 record through 30 games this year.
Matched up against UConn on Wednesday, the Eagles kicked things off with a 37-33 advantage in the first half. Marquette was outscored by 10 points the rest of the way however, resulting in a 72-66 loss in the end. Top scorer David Joplin posted 23 points with five rebounds in the defeat. The only other team player in double-digits was Kam Jones with his 21 points and four rebounds.

St. John’s vs Marquette Prediction
I’ll take a stab at Marquette. The Eagles are coming off a disappointing road loss to UConn, posting just 3-of-22 (13.6 percent) from 3-point range alongside a 44-29 rebounding deficit along the way. Otherwise, Marquette was pretty competitive, but it was still a bad outing. That makes 66 points in two of the last four games (both losses) for the Eagles.
Marquette lost 70-64 on the road the last time these teams saw each other back on February 4. The Eagles lost steam in the second half during that matchup as well and ended up getting blasted on the boards 50-28 with a tepid 40.7 shooting percentage. There’s plenty to clean up in the rematch, but I think Marquette can power one out if all goes well at home this time. It’s going to take a much better effort on the boards though, so you wouldn’t be crazy for taking St. John’s as the more physical team here.
