Baylor Bears Betting Preview

The Bears haven’t been anywhere near as active as a lot of teams out there this year; they’ve got just four games in the books so far. Baylor opened up with a matchup versus UT Rio Grande Valley and took the victory 96-81 in the end. Game two was another victory but this one was closer; the Bears took a 78-69 win over Washington. As for game four back on Friday, Baylor rolled to another victory 94-81 over Tarleton State to keep their record free from blemishes through three games.

In Monday’s matchup with Creighton, the Bears jumped out to a 44-36 lead at the break. Baylor was outscored 38-37 the rest of the way but held on for the 81-74 win in the end. Tops in scoring was Cameron Carr with 21 points, nine boards and three assists. Dan Skillings added 14 points and eight boards, while Obi Agbim had 13 points, four rebounds and two assists in 36 minutes of work for the Bears during the victory effort.

Saint John’s Red Storm Betting Preview

Over on the St. John’s side, they’ve managed to get five games in the bag this season so far. The Red Storm kicked things off with a 108-74 blowout win over Quinnipiac, then lost a tough one 103-96 versus Alabama in game two. Game three was a return to form as St. John’s took out William & Mary 93-60, then came another blowout victory in game four. This one was a 97-49 win versus an overmatched Bucknell squad.

Matched up against Iowa State in the Monday game, the Storm held a slim 45-43 lead at the break but closed on a 40-37 deficit for a rough 83-82 loss. Leading the scoring was Oziyah Sellers with 20 points and five rebounds, while both Zuby Ejiofor (nine rebounds; five assists) and Bryce Hopkins (seven rebounds; three assists) each had 16 points in the losing effort.

Baylor vs Saint John’s Prediction

I’ll lean toward Baylor here. The Bears handled a decent Creighton team pretty well on Monday, thanks to a nice effort up front. Baylor had an advantage on the boards 39-24 and in the paint 38-28 while shooting a reasonable 43.1 percent from the field and 12-of-16 (75 percent) from the line. The Bears also had 15 team assists and just nine turnovers in the victory. That gives Baylor 78 or more points in all four games this year, with 94 or more points in two of those outings. I could see another big total coming on Tuesday if the Bears can keep it going.

As for Saint John’s, they put up a valiant effort against a great Iowa State team on Monday but fell just short. The Storm shot 43.3 percent from the field with a 31-28 rebounding advantage, 76.7 percent (23-of-30) from the line and just nine turnovers but couldn’t get it done. This one should be another pretty good game if the Bears can get it going.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Baylor Bears +4.5
