St. Bonaventure vs Canisius Prediction

I’ll lean toward Canisius but I’m probably not touching it. The Griffins are coming off a blowout opener loss on the road versus Penn State so right now it’s tough telling what their potential is against comparable teams. In the defeat on Monday Canisius shot just 39 percent from the field and 18 percent (4-of-22) from outside along with 17 turnovers and a 45-28 rebounding deficit. I’m taking the optimistic route here and thinking the Griffins will match up better in game two.

As for St. Bonaventure, they took an eight-point loss against Youngstown State in their opener this week. The Bonnies shot well (47 percent) from the field and hit 35 percent (6-of-17) from outside but really struggled at the line on 43 percent (9-of-21) there. Outside of the 13 turnovers and 47-38 rebounding deficit however, St. Bonaventure didn’t play horrendously. A few tweaks could put them in much better shape for this matchup. A Bonnies pick here also makes a lot of sense, so it’s probably best to just back off of this one and see how things go on the scoreboard.

St. Bonaventure Bonnies Betting Preview

Last season the Bonnies had a fairly middling campaign overall at 17-17. St. Bonaventure really struggled in Atlantic 10 games though, going 4-14 for a finish ahead of only Loyola Chicago (also at 4-14). The good news is that the Bonnies did pretty well in the A-10 Tournament, beating La Salle and George Mason ahead of a quarterfinals loss to Dayton.

In their 2026-27 season opener on Monday versus Youngstown State at Reilly Center, the Bonnies took a tough loss 79-71. Leading the way in the defeat was Zach Phillipkoski with 28 points, three boards and four assists. Benjamin Bill added 15 points with nine boards, four blocks and five turnovers as well.

Canisius Golden Griffins Betting Preview

Over on the Canisius side, they had a forgettable season in 2025-26. The Golden Griffins went just 10-21 overall with a 5-15 run in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Canisius finished ahead of only Rider in the standings with that effort. The Golden Griffins won two of their final four games but also had a rough 11-game losing streak in January/February that buried the team’s chances at a conference tournament berth.

The Griffins opened up their year on Monday with a tough road matchup versus Penn State at Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, PA. Canisius struggled through that one and left with a big loss 97-57. Tops on the team was Clinton Efinda with 13 points and six rebounds over 32 minutes of game time. The only other team player to finish in double-digits was Preist Ryan with 12 points, eight rebounds and two assists in the losing effort. Jerry Guerrero added six points and four rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench.
