Over on the Memphis side, they started the year at 9-8 overall, then lost to Tulsa, Wichita State and Tulane in the next four outings. After wins versus UAB and Charlotte the Tigers took losses to North Texas, Utah State, South Florida and UAB in the next four outings. Memphis would then lose two more versus Wichita State and East Carolina for a 12-17 record so far this year.
In the East Carolina matchup over the weekend the Tigers came back out on the floor after halftime with a 44-30 deficit. I’ll stick with South Florida. The Bulls took out a pretty solid Tulane team without too much issue over the weekend, hitting 44.8 percent from the field with 84 percent (21-of-25) from the line. USF added a 41-29 rebounding advantage and 20 points off 10 Wave turnovers. The Bulls are riding a seven-game win streak right now and they’ve won 10 of the last 11 outings.
These teams last met up back on February 19 in an 87-66 home victory for South Florida. In that one USF posted just 36.4 percent shooting from the field and 10 turnovers. The good news is that the Bulls had 85.7 percent (30-of-35) from the line and a 45-33 rebounding edge alongside just 32.8 percent shooting allowed on defense. South Florida needs to get that shooting percentage up in the road rematch but I think they’ll pull it off.
