SIU Edwardsville Cougars Betting Preview

The Cougars have been a mixed bag so far this year, but they’ve got more solid runs than skids in the books. SIU Edwardsville opened on a 7-6 run with losses to Indiana, Illinois, Green Bay, North Florida, Little Rock, and Southeast Missouri State in that time. A solid 8-2 run came across the next 10 games featuring losses to Tennessee-Martin and Lindenwood alongside wins over Western Illinois, Lindenwood, Eastern Illinois, Tennessee Tech, Tennessee State, Southern Indiana, Morehead State, and Western Illinois in that time. The result was a 15-8 overall run through the first 23 games of the year.

In their Tuesday game versus Eastern Illinois, SIU Edwardsville was up 22-21 going into the locker room. The Cougars came alive in the second half though, surging on a 44-20 run for a 66-41 win in the end. Leading team scorer Myles Thompson posted a double-double off the bench with 15 points and 11 boards. Tops among starters was Ray’Sean Taylor with 13 points and four assists.

Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles Betting Preview

Over on the Tennessee Tech side, they’ve had a few more struggles this season but have been able to crawl above the .500 mark recently. The Eagles lost seven of their first 11 games though, falling to Georgia, UT Rio Grande Valley, UCF, Vanderbilt, North Alabama, West Georgia, and Western Illinois in that time. After wins over Lindenwood, Milligan, Southern Indiana, Morehead State and Eastern Illinois, Tennessee Tech fell to SIU Edwardsville, SEMO, Little Rock, and Tennessee State. The next trio were wins over TN-Martin, Morehead State, and Southern Indiana, giving the Eagles a 12-11 overall run so far this year.

Matched up against the Screaming Eagles on Saturday, Tennessee Tech exited the locker room with a 34-31 edge. The Eagles kept it up from there on a 44-34 run and took the eventual victory 78-65 in the end. Rodney Johnson led the way with 15 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Jaylon Johnson put up 13 points with six boards and four assists, while Daniel Egbuniwe doubled on 11 points with 12 rebounds and three assists.

SIU Edwardsville vs Tennessee Tech Prediction

I might take a stab at Tennessee Tech. The Eagles didn’t have too many issues taking out Southern Indiana on the road in their last outing, hitting 42.2 percent from the field with a 47-37 rebounding advantage. The 10 turnovers were just about the only thing to complain about. Tennessee Tech has been scoring well lately with 70 or more points in six straight games—but they’ve only won three of those.

The last time these teams met up was back on January 11 in a 67-59 road loss for the Golden Eagles. Tennessee Tech shot a miserable 32.1 percent from the field in that one with 13 turnovers for 13 Cougars points. The Eagles shot just 6-of-27 (22.2 percent) from outside and gave up 44.3 percent shooting to SIUE in a pretty limp effort. I like Tennessee Tech to get a little revenge in the home rematch—so long as they can keep the turnovers in check.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles -1.5
