Seton Hall Pirates Betting Preview
The Pirates kicked off their season on a nice 14-2 run, then lost six of the next eight games versus UConn, Butler, St. John’s, DePaul, Villanova and Creighton. Since then it’s been a 5-3 stretch with losses to DePaul, UConn and St. John’s among wins over Providence, Butler, Georgetown, Xavier and Creighton. That gives the Pirates a 21-11 overall record in 32 games.
On Thursday in the tournament game versus Creighton, the Pirates were doing well after the first half with a 33-26 edge. Seton Hall was able to keep the Jays at bay the rest of the way on a 39-35 run and took the victory in the end 72-61. Leading the team in scoring was Adam Clark with 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Jacob Dar was up there as well with 16 points and five rebounds.
St. John’s Red Storm Betting Preview
Over on the St. John’s side, they started out at 7-3 then hit a 2-2 stretch with losses to Kentucky and Providence. Next was a win streak over Butler, Creighton, Marquette, Villanova, Seton Hall, Xavier, Butler, DePaul, UConn, Xavier, Providence, Marquette and Creighton. After a loss to UConn came wins over Villanova, Georgetown, Seton Hall and Providence for a 26-6 run.
Matched up against Providence in the tournament game Thursday the Red Storm jumped out to a commanding 48-27 lead by the end of the first half. St. John’s was outscored 45-37 the rest of the way but held on for the double-digit win in the end 85-72. Zuby Ejiofor was tops on the team with 21 points, 10 rebounds and five assists while three different players each had 14 points.
Seton Hall vs St. John’s Prediction
I’m going to stay with St. John’s. The Storm had a pretty solid game versus Providence, eventually shooting 42.9 percent from the field with a 47-29 rebounding advantage and a 46-36 edge in the paint. St. John’s added 17 points off nine Friars turnovers. The Red Storm have now won four straight games (scoring 72 or more points in each) and 17 of their last 18 total.
These teams have met twice this year with St. John’s taking both games: 65-60 at home on January 20 and 72-65 in a road game on March 6. In that last road game, the Storm shot a nice 50 percent from the field with 41.1 percent shooting surrendered on defense. St. John’s was outmuscled on the boards 31-27 though, and hit just 59.1 percent (13-of-22) from the line. The Storm really need to clean a few things up in this tournament rematch.
