Seattle has had a couple of good (and brief) runs so far this year. That said, the Redhawks have struggled pretty significantly in the record column. Seattle kicked things off with an 8-10 stretch, taking losses to Eastern Washington, Liberty, Cal Poly, Furman, Duke, UTEP, Western Kentucky, UIC, Nicholls, and Cal Baptist along the way. Since then, the Redhawks are just 3-7 in their last 10 outings. Those wins were over Tarleton State, Texas Arlington, and Cal Baptist. The losses otherwise were versus Texas Arlington, Utah Valley, Grand Canyon, Abilene Christian, Tarleton State, Utah Valley, and Grand Canyon in succession. That gives the Redhawks an 11-17 overall run through 28 games so far this year. 

In the Grand Canyon home rematch on Saturday, the Redhawks came out of the locker room with a 37-23 deficit. Seattle fought back in the second half on a 37-26 advantage but eventually lost 63-60 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe with 16 points, eight boards, two blocks and two assists in 30 minutes of action. Paris Dawson came off the bench for 16 points and five rebounds in 27 minutes, and Brayden Maldonado added 12 points with two rebounds in 31 minutes on the floor. 

Southern Utah Thunderbirds Betting Preview

Over on the Thunderbirds’ side, they opened the year on a nice run but it’s been a struggle since early December. Southern Utah won eight of their first 10 games before losses to Arizona, New Mexico State, UTRGV, Northern Arizona, Grand Canyon, and Tarleton State. After a win over Texas Arlington, the Thunderbirds lost to Seattle, Grand Canyon, Cal Baptist, Texas Arlington, and Tarleton State. Since then it’s been a 3-4 run with wins over Cal Baptist and Utah Tech (twice) with losses otherwise to Abilene Christian, Utah Valley, Abilene Christian and Utah Valley again. That gives the Thunderbirds a 12-17 record in 29 games so far this year. 

Matched up against Utah Valley in the road rematch on Saturday, the Thunderbirds were down 52-24 after the first half. Southern Utah didn’t get any closer on a 48-35 run from there and took the loss 100-59. Brock Felder led the team in the losing effort with 11 points, seven boards and two assists alongside two blocks. Both Jeffrey Langston (five rebounds) and Jamir Simpson (three rebounds; four assists) added 10 points each as well.

Seattle vs Southern Utah Prediction 

I’ll stay with Seattle here. There’s not a lot to like about this game if you’re not a fan of either team, though. The Redhawks shot a miserable 25.4 percent from the field with a 46-31 rebounding deficit in their latest home loss to Grand Canyon. The good news is that Seattle posted just eight turnovers and played much better in the second half, though. That said, it’s been four losses in the last five games for the Redhawks, with fewer than 65 points scored in each of those defeats. 

Seattle powered out a 75-52 blowout home win the last time these teams saw each other back on January 18. The Redhawks got 18 points off 18 Thunderbirds turnovers in that one though, and they won’t be able to rely so heavily on mistakes in the road rematch.
