Southeast Missouri State Redhawks Betting Preview

The Redhawks didn’t have the greatest of starts this year, going just 2-6 over their first eight games with wins over Webster and Cal Poly. Southeast Missouri State would hit a 7-1 run in the next eight games though, falling to only Tennessee Tech. After three straight losses from there, the Redhawks beat TN-Martin and Little Rock for an 11-10 record in their first 21 games this year.

On Thursday versus Western Illinois, Southeast Missouri State took a 36-29 advantage into the second half. The Redhawks were outscored 45-42 the rest of the way but managed to hang on for a nice win on the road 78-74. Brendan Terry was tops on the team with 16 points and eight rebounds while Marqueas Bell had 15 points with eight rebounds and two assists in the win.

Eastern Illinois Panthers Betting Preview

Over on the Eastern Illinois side, they limped to a 2-8 record in their first 10 games. The Panthers would then take wins over SIU Edwardsville, East-West U, Tennessee Tech, Tennessee State and Western Illinois in the next seven before a 2-2 run that featured a pair of losses to Little Rock and Morehead State. Through the first 21 games of the year EIU sat at 9-12 overall.

Matched up against Tennessee-Martin on Thursday the Panthers were all tied up 37-37 by the end of the first half. In the second, Eastern Illinois was outscored 39-31 however, and lost the game at home 76-68 in the end. Terry McMorris was tops on 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists while Meechie White had 14 points with three assists and two rebounds.

Southeast Missouri State vs Eastern Illinois Prediction

I’ll take a stab on Eastern Illinois. The Panthers lost a home matchup to a pretty good TN-Martin team this week by not shooting well. Eastern Illinois hit just 39 percent from the field with 26.3 percent (5-of-19) from outside and 58.6 percent (17-of-29) from the line. That gives the Panthers consecutive losses, 73-68 versus Morehead State and 76-68 versus the Skyhawks.

These teams last saw each other back on New Year’s Day in a 68-59 road loss for the Panthers. Eastern Illinois shot just 35.2 percent from the field in that one with a 37-28 deficit on the boards and a 42-24 disadvantage on points in the paint. The 11 turnovers didn’t help either. The Panthers should see a lift in the home rematch though, and I like them to play well—or at least better.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Eastern Illinois Panthers +4.5
