The Samford Bulldogs and the VCU Rams meet Friday in college basketball action from Siegel Center. Here’s a Samford vs VCU prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Samford vs VCU pick. We will examine the recent form and player performances for both teams, as well as the recent betting trends and streaks pertaining to this matchup. As we conclude, we will tie it all together with a summary that produces a sensible pick for a favorable betting outcome in this game.

Samford Bulldogs Betting Preview

Samford got off to a 3-2 start this year. The losses in that time were versus Tulane and Arkansas; otherwise it was wins over South Carolina State, Texas Southern and Central Arkansas. Since then the Bulldogs have hit the skids on a 1-3 stretch. The lone win in that time was over Georgia State. The losses came versus Florida Gulf Coast, New Mexico State and Utah Valley otherwise. That gives the Bulldogs a 4-5 record overall so far this season.

In the Utah Valley matchup last Wednesday, the Bulldogs came out of the locker room trailing by an ugly 42-14 margin. Samford didn’t get any closer on a 47-31 run from there and lost 89-45. Isaiah Campbell-Finch put up 12 points in 32 minutes, and the only other Samford player to finish in double-digits was Cade Norris on 10 points and two boards in 36 minutes of work on the floor during the defeat.

VCU Rams Betting Preview

Over on the VCU side, they’ve managed to stay above the .500 mark so far this year. The Rams kicked things off at 2-2, taking wins over Wagner and Saint Peter’s alongside losses to Utah State and NC State. VCU is 3-1 in the last four outings, falling versus Vanderbilt along with wins over Coppin State, South Florida and Virginia Tech. Over eight games this year that gives the Rams a 5-3 record overall.

Last week versus Virginia Tech, the Rams opened the game on a first-half advantage 45-35. VCU closed on a 41-33 run and took the 18-point win in the end 86-68. Terrence Hill led the team on 21 points with three rebounds, and Barry Evans had 17 points with five rebounds and three assists. Jadrian Tracey put up 13 points with two boards and two rebounds as well.

Why the VCU Rams will win

Samford vs VCU Prediction

I’ll lean toward VCU. The Rams didn’t have a ton of troubles versus Virginia Tech in their latest win, despite shooting a tepid 15-of-22 (68.2 percent) from the line and coughing up 14 turnovers. VCU shot 52.6 percent from the field and 11-of-21 (52.4 percent) from outside in their victory, outscoring the Hokies 32-30 in the paint as well. During this current 3-1 stretch, VCU has 74 or more points in every game and 78 or more points in each win—with 86 or more in two of those.

As for Samford, they shot an abysmal 25.4 percent from the field and 41.7 percent (5-of-12) from the line in their loss to Utah Valley. The Bulldogs were out-rebounded 41-26 and had 16 turnovers while allowing the Wolverines to shoot 56.5 percent from the field. Samford had a combined 150 points in the previous two games though, so they can score when they’re motivated. I don’t think they’ll keep a cover pace on the Rams, though.

Andrew Jett's Pick: VCU Rams -19
