The Hornets opened up the season with a .500 record over their first eight games. The losses in that time were versus UC Santa Barbara, UC Davis, UCLA and California. Since then it’s been losses to Pacific, Baylor, Cal Baptist, Cal State Northridge, Idaho State and Weber State in succession. In the Weber State game last weekend the Hornets entered the second half with a 50-39 deficit. Sacramento State didn’t end up getting any closer on a 45-43 run from there and took the loss 95-82 in the end. Mikey Williams was the top scorer in the losing effort with 26 points and four rebounds. Both Mark Lavrenov (four rebounds) and Jayden Teat chipped in 12 points each as well.

Over on the Vikings’ side, they kicked off their year with a 5-2 run across their first seven games. The only two losses during that time came versus Stanford and San Francisco in the first three outings. Portland State would lose to Omaha, Colorado and Tulane in the next four appearances, then took a couple of wins over Weber State and Idaho State. That makes for an 8-5 overall run in the first 13 games of the year.
In the Saturday matchup versus Idaho State, the Vikings were in the locker room with a 36-29 deficit. Portland State managed to tie it up in the second half and went to overtime to get the eventual win 93-87. Terri Miller was tops on 25 points and four assists. Sacramento State vs Portland State Prediction
I’ll just stay with Portland State. The Vikings are coming off a nice comeback overtime win versus a middling Idaho State team in a road matchup, shooting a great 53.3 percent from the field and 22-of-26 (84.6 percent) from the line along the way. Portland State was out-rebounded 31-28 but had a decisive 48-28 edge on points in the paint and only eight turnovers. The Vikings have won consecutive games now, with both being overtime finishes.
As for Sac State, they shot pretty well (44.6 percent) from the field in their latest loss to Weber State, but also hit just 62.5 percent (15-of-24) from the line and had 15 turnovers. That makes six straight losses for the Hornets, but they’ve scored 82 or more points in three straight. That also means they’re giving up a lot of production on defense lately, though.
