Sacramento State Hornets Betting Preview

The Sacramento State Hornets enter Thursday night’s contest with a 9–14 win‑loss record, including a 5–6 mark in conference play and an abysmal 0–12 record on the road. The Hornets have compiled recent wins over Weber State, Montana and Montana State, while losing games to Idaho, Eastern Washington, Baylor and the Pacific Tigers. Earlier this month, in the Sacramento State Hornets 104–90 win over Weber State Wildcats, Sacramento State guard Prophet Johnson tallied a massive 35 points (11 of 16 shooting from the field:3 of 5 shooting from three-point range), 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals, illustrating his ability to lead the Hornets offense.

These two teams met earlier this season. Who prevailed? Last month, Sacramento State defeated the Northern Colorado Bears 93-89.

The Sacramento State Hornets average 76.8 points on 41.4 percent shooting from the field and 33.2 percent shooting from beyond the arc per game. On the defensive side of the basketball, the Hornets are allowing opponents 84.2 points per game which ranks a dreadful 352nd in the country.

Senior guard Prophet Johnson leads the Sacramento State Hornets averaging 18.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.6 steals per game. Sophomore guard Mikey Williams averages 17.1 points, 3 rebounds, 4.5 assists on 36.3 percent shooting from the field per game.

Northern Colorado Bears Betting Preview

The Northern Colorado Bears enter Saturday’s contest with a 14–10 overall win‑loss record, including a 4–7 mark in conference play and a 6–6 record on the road. The Bears have earned wins over Weber State, Eastern Washington and the Idaho Vandals, while dropping recent games to Northern Arizona, Montana State and the Sacramento State Hornets. More recently, in the Northern Colorado Bears 88–74 victory over Weber State earlier this week, Northern Colorado guard Quinn Denker played exceptionally well scoring 31 points on 12 of 19 shooting from the field.

The Northern Colorado Bears average 80.5 points on 48.3 percent shooting from the field and 35.5 percent shooting from three-point range per game. Defensively, the Bears are allowing opponents 79.2 points per contest which ranks an abysmal 294th in the nation.

Senior guard Quinn Denker leads the Northern Colorado Bears averaging 18.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 7.1 assists and 1 steal per game. Senior forward Brock Wisne contributes 15.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists per contest providing the Bears with a quality interior presence.

Why the Sacramento State Hornets Will Win

• Backcourt production. Senior guard Prophet Johnson leads the Sacramento State Hornets backcourt averaging 18.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.6 steals per game.

• Balanced scoring. Prophet Johnson and Mikey Williams combine for over 35 points per contest.

• Confidence. Last month, Sacramento State defeated the Northern Colorado Bears 93-89.

Why the Northern Colorado Bears Will Win

• Elite offense. The Northern Colorado Bears average 80.5 points on 48.3 percent shooting from the field per game.

• Frontcourt play. Senior forward Brock Wisne contributes 15.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists per contest.

• Momentum. The Northern Colorado Bears arrive at tomorrow night’s contest on the heels of four-game winning streak.

Sacramento State vs. Northern Colorado Prediction

This matchup features Sacramento State’s frontcourt scoring and Powell’s interior presence against a Northern Colorado team that shoots efficiently, plays well at home and has one of the most productive guards in the Big Sky conference. Sacramento State’s road struggles and defensive inconsistency make the Hornets difficult to trust in this environment. For the reasons just noted, I am backing the Northern Colorado Bears to win this game.

Hans Geevers's Pick: Northern Colorado -7.5
