Presbyterian Blue Hose Betting Preview
Presbyterian started out the year on a pretty good run over their first eight games, but they’ve since become quite choppy in the record column and have fallen below .500 on the season as a result. The Hose beat Carolina Christian, Wofford, Stephen F. Austin, Youngstown State, and Monmouth over their first eight outings, then hit a 2-5 skid. The losses in that time came versus Tennessee Tech, Florida A&M, Miami, Manhattan, and South Carolina with wins over Columbia College SC and Virginia Lynchburg otherwise. Presbyterian would then beat Longwood before three more losses in succession versus Gardner-Webb, USC Upstate, and UNC Asheville for an 8-11 overall run through the first 19 games of the season.
In the UNC Asheville game, the Hose came out of the locker room sporting a 45-44 deficit. Presbyterian wouldn’t end up getting any closer than that, however, falling behind on a 51-43 run for an eventual loss of 96-87. Leading the team in scoring was Triston Wilson who came off the bench for 21 points and three rebounds in just 19 minutes on the floor. Tops among starters was Jamahri Harvey with 14 points, four rebounds, and one assist in 31 minutes of work.
High Point Panthers Betting Preview
Over on the High Point side, they came out of the gate this season with a great run. The Panthers have stayed consistent since then without consecutive losses just yet. Wins over Coppin State, Jackson State, NC Central, UAB, American, Old Dominion, Hampton, Pfeiffer, North Texas, App State, Carolina U, and Southern Illinois came over the Panthers’ first 14 games. Since then it’s been a tepid 3-3 run, though. The wins in that time have come over Radford, Charleston Southern, and Gardner-Webb with losses otherwise versus UNC Asheville, Norfolk State, and Longwood for a 15-5 record thus far in the year.
Matched up against Longwood on the road in their latest outing on Thursday, the Panthers held a 34-34 tie going into the second half. High Point was outpaced 48-46 the rest of the way for a tough loss of 82-80 in the end. Kezza Giffa led the team with 18 points, five rebounds, and two assists in the defeat, while Chase Johnston put up 12 points and two steals. Simon Hildebrandt added 11 points and three rebounds off the bench as well.
Why the High Point Panthers will win
- High Point has won each of its last 10 night games at Qubein Center against non-AP-ranked opponents.
- Presbyterian has lost each of its last 12 Saturday road games against Conference opponents.
- Presbyterian has lost the first half in 13 of its last 14 Saturday road games against Conference opponents.
Presbyterian vs High Point Prediction
I’ll probably just stick with High Point here. The Panthers could use a good game (and a good win) following a tough defeat by a decent Longwood team in their last outing, though. High Point posted just 39.7 percent shooting from the field with a 40-35 rebounding deficit in that one but did take great care of the ball on just five turnovers. The Panthers have been scoring well for most of the year, and they’ve got 74 or more points in eight straight games (a 5-3 run).
As for Presbyterian, they’ve been flailing in the record column lately and have given up a combined 173 points over their last two outings alone. High Point should have plenty of scoring opportunities in a comfy home game here, and I like the Panthers to roll.
