The Portland State Vikings and the Stanford Cardinal meet Monday in college basketball action from the Maples Pavilion. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Portland State Vikings vs. Stanford Cardinal prediction.
Portland State Vikings Recap
The Portland State Vikings come into the 2025-26 season riding a solid 19-13 overall record and an 11-7 Big Sky mark from 2024-25. They finished third in the conference and while they didn’t punch a ticket to the NCAA Tournament after losing to Idaho in the quarterfinals of the Big Sky tournament, they built momentum under head coach Jase Coburn. Three starters return in Jaylin Henderson (13.0 PPG), Terri Miller Jr. (12.1 PPG, 5.5 RPG), and Tre-Vaughn Minott (22.5 MPG, 7.6 RPG). There’s a ton of replacing to do for Portland State The Vikings brought in a transfer-heavy class led by Isaiah Williams and Samuel Stewart IV who played last season in the D-II and D-II ranks as well as Brycen Long from Arizona State. There’s a lot of potential in Portland State’s roster in 2025-26 and the Big Sky being as wide open as it is leaves a lot of room for the Vikings in this upcoming season to make a move.
Stanford Cardinal Recap
The Stanford Cardinal come into the 2025-26 season looking to build off a breakthrough 21-14 campaign in 2024-25, including an 11-9 mark in ACC play. The Cardinal beat Cal in the second round of the ACC tournament before falling to Louisville in the quarterfinals. The result was still good enough for a berth into the NIT, where Stanford took out CSU-Northridge before losing to Kent State in the second round. Kyle Smith’s first year at the helm quickly changed the culture, and the program now faces significant turnover to have to deal with. Maxime Raynaud, the team’s breakout star and leading scorer, is gone after entering the NBA Draft, and Jared Bynum also graduated. Thankfully for Stanford a lot of the depth pieces return like Ryan Agarwal, Benny Gealer, Chisom Okpara and Aidan Cammann, while Jeremy Dent-Smith had an impact at the D-II level and AJ Rohosy was a double-double machine in D-III. It may take time to gel but there’s still promise for Stanford with Smith at the helm and some key pieces that could make the Cardinal dangerous in 2025-26.

Portland State Vikings vs. Stanford Cardinal Prediction
I’m on Portland State and the points here I think that Portland State can sneak in the backdoor as I just have so many questions and levels of uncertainty with what Stanford is going to be early on this season. The Vikings have some turnover of their own, but I think there’s still a decent amount of upside with the Vikings here. Give me Portland State and the points.
