Portland State Vikings Betting Preview

Portland State has a pair of games in the bag so far this year. The first came on the road last Tuesday versus Stanford. The Vikings held a seven-point deficit at the break in that matchup and eventually lost 89-79 after a 52-49 run from there. Leading the team in scoring was Sebastian Tidor with 22 points, seven boards and two assists in 33 minutes of action, while Jaylin Henderson put up 19 points with four assists and two rebounds in 35 minutes during the loss. Terri Miller also finished in double-digits with 14 points, four assists and four rebounds.

In game two on Friday, the Vikings managed to even up their record with a pretty easy win over Northwest Indian College. In that one Portland State had a 57-31 edge by halftime and rolled to a 122-74 win after 65 more points in the second half. Jaylin Henderson topped the team this time with his 20 points and two rebounds. Keyon Kensie added 14 points and a block in the winning effort for Portland State as well.

San Francisco Dons Betting Preview

Over on the Dons’ side, they opened up the year last Monday with a pretty routine game versus the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs. San Francisco rolled to a 51-15 advantage by halftime then closed with a 47-38 run on the way to a blowout 98-53 win in the end. Tops in scoring was Legend Smiley with 18 points and three rebounds, while Veniamin Ikengka Abosi logged 11 points and five boards in 21 minutes of action. Mookie Cook chipped 12 points with nine rebounds in 22 mittens and Wang Junjie had nine points with four boards in the win.

Game two versus Memphis in a road matchup was a trickier proposition for the Dons. San Francisco went into the locker room with a 36-22 deficit and closed on a 48-40 run for a 76-70 loss in the end. Tops on the team this time was Mookie Cook with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Tyrone Riley had 15 points with four boards. David Fuchs put up 12 points with four rebounds and two assists as the only other player on the team to finish in double-digits.

Why the San Francisco Dons will win

Portland State vs San Francisco Prediction

I’ll lean toward San Francisco. The Dons had a sluggish first half in their last outing versus Memphis though, so they’ll need to get off to a better start here. San Francisco shot a tepid 40 percent in that one with just 16-of-25 (64 percent) from the line and a 36-31 rebounding deficit. San Francisco had 12 team assists and nine steals but also coughed up 16 turnovers for 16 Tigers steals in the defeat. It’s going to take a better all-around effort to pull off a cover here, but San Francisco has shown signs of a potentially good offense and should do a pretty solid job on Wednesday if they can keep the shots falling (not to mention avoid turnovers).

As for Portland State, they’ve got a couple of good offensive performances in the books themselves, however giving up 89 points to Stanford in the opener wasn’t a great sign. I like a competitive game here with the Dons eventually pulling off the cover. Should be a fun one.

Andrew Jett's Pick: San Francisco Dons -11.5
