The Panthers were sitting at a tepid 8-9 back in mid-January, then lost to Louisville, Boston College and NC State before a win over Wake Forest. Losses to Clemson, Virginia, SMU, Duke and North Carolina came next, then a 2-1 run over the next three. Those wins were over Notre Dame and Cal, giving the Panthers an 11-18 record through the first 29 games this year.
On Wednesday versus Florida State, Pittsburgh was in trouble at the break. The Panthers were looking up at a 46-30 deficit in the locker room, but in the second half they made a game of it on a 44-29 run. Unfortunately Pitt ended up falling short in a 75-74 loss on their home court. Tops in scoring was Barry Dunning with 26 points and 10 rebounds in 40 minutes of action.
Syracuse Orange Betting Preview
Over on the Syracuse side, they were 12-5 over their first 17 games this year. The next seven games were a 1-6 run though, featuring losses to Boston College, Virginia Tech, Miami, NC State, North Carolina and Virginia. The Orange would then beat Cal and SMU before more losses to Duke, North Carolina, Wake Forest and Louisville for a 15-15 record this year.
In Tuesday’s game versus Louisville the Orange limped to a 39-21 deficit at the end of the first half. Syracuse did get slightly better after emerging from the locker room with a 41-38 run but it wasn’t nearly enough in a 77-62 loss on the road. Nathan George led the team on 16 points while Nate Kings added 14 points with six rebounds and two assists in 31 minutes of work.

Pitt vs Syracuse Prediction
I might take a stab on Pitt here, but I’m probably not touching it. The Panthers had a bad first half in their loss at home versus Florida State this week and couldn’t make up the gap in the second. Pittsburgh shot just 41.3 percent from the field in that one with a 32-24 deficit in the paint and 48.3 percent shooting allowed on defense. The Panthers are 2-2 in their last four games with 72 or more points scored in three of those, however.
Back on January 10 when these teams last saw each other, the Panthers took an 83-72 home loss. In that one Pittsburgh shot 43.8 percent from the field and an ugly 19.2 percent (5-of-26) from outside while giving up 55.8 percent shooting on defense. Pittsburgh had 12 turnovers but also held a 40-32 edge in the paint. This road rematch won’t be easy but if the Panthers play to their capabilities I think they have a decent shot.
