Pittsburgh Panthers Betting Preview

Pittsburgh put up a dominant 96-56 win over Radford in their opener this year, then beat Murray State 83-68 and Gardner-Webb 83-64. The Panthers would then blow out West Virginia 86-62 in game four.

Matched up against VMI on Monday, Pittsburgh recorded another sizable win. The Panthers jumped out to a 39-20 halftime lead and closed on a 54-28 run for a 93-48 blowout. Jaland Lowe posted a triple-double in that one with 11 points, 10 boards, and 10 assists.

LSU Tigers Betting Preview

Over on the LSU side, they’ve remained unscathed through four games so far. The Tigers blew out LA-Monroe 95-60 in their opener then beat Alabama State 74-61. Game three was another win, this time 76-65 over Kansas State.

In the Charleston Southern game on Tuesday, the Tigers were in trouble at halftime with a 34-29 deficit. LSU came back on a 48-34 second half for a 77-68 win, though. Tops in scoring was Vyctorius Miller with 19 points in 23 minutes of work.

Why the LSU Tigers will win

  • LSU has won each of its last four games against the Atlantic Coast Conference at neutral venues.

Why the Pittsburgh Panthers will win

  • Pittsburgh has won each of its last nine games against non-conference opponents.
  • LSU has lost the first half in each of its last three day games against non-conference opponents.

Pittsburgh vs LSU Prediction

I’ll stick with Pitt. The Panthers are looking great in the early going, but this will certainly be their toughest game of the season so far. Pittsburgh has scored 83 or more points in all five games, and they’re coming off 54.7 percent shooting and 47 rebounds in a dismantling of an overmatched VMI team.

As for LSU, they get credit for the second-half comeback against Charleston Southern but it was a rough first half. The Tigers shot just 13-of-23 (56.5 percent) from the line with a 42-42 tie in rebounding and only seven team assists. Those numbers aren’t going to cut it against the Panthers.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Pittsburgh Panthers -5.5
