The Quakers were only 9-10 on the year as January came to an end and they’d just lost eight of 12 games. Penn won their next four games over Cornell, Princeton, Columbia and Cornell again, then fell versus Yale. After that came victories versus Dartmouth, Harvard, Brown and Harvard again. Over 28 games total this season, that gives the Quakers a 17-11 overall record in the books.

On Saturday versus Harvard in tournament action, the Quakers held a four-point edge at halftime. Penn was outscored 27-23 the rest of the way however and had to go to overtime. Following the extra period, The Quakers ended up with a tight 62-60 victory. Leading the team in scoring was TJ Power with 16 points and 12 boards for a double-double. Both Cam Thrower and Michael Zanoni added 11 points apiece.

Over on the Yale side, they they were able to go a nice 12-3 over their first 15 outings this year. The Bulldogs beat Cornell, Columbia, Penn and Dartmouth in the next four, then fell versus Harvard. After that has been an 8-1 with wins over Brown, Howard, Dartmouth, Harvard, Penn, Columbia, Princeton and Cornell (alongside a loss to Cornell on February 27). Yale is currently sitting at 24-5 overall in 29 games.

Penn vs Yale Prediction

I’ll stick with the Bulldogs. Yale was able to get a bit of revenge on Cornell in their tournament win Saturday, hitting a nice 54.7 percent from the field with a 33-29 rebounding advantage, 21 team assists and a 46-34 edge on points in the paint. The Bulldogs added just seven turnovers but weren’t spectacular from the line on 57.1 percent (8-of-14). Still, Yale has won three straight and eight of their last nine total. They’ve scored a combined 166 points in the last two outings.

Yale won both games between these teams this year: 77-0 on the road January 24 and 74-70 at home on February 21. In that most recent meeting, the Bulldogs shot a pretty solid 44.3 percent from the field with a 36-29 rebounding advantage and a 36-22 edge in the paint. Penn stayed in the game with a very nice effort from 3-point range on 52.6 percent (10-of-19). This rematch could go a lot of different ways; it’ll be a fun one.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Yale Bulldogs -9.5
