Can Oregon State Make a Run?
Oregon State has all kinds of confidence right now, winning two games in a row, but now they go on the road, a place they haven’t been as good. Two games ago against Pacific, Oregon State picked up the 79-65 victory. In the last game against Pepperdine, Oregon State scored 84 points, winning by six points. Oregon State scored 46 points in the second half to close the deal. Michael Rataj had quite the game, putting up 25 points, 12 rebounds, and two assists. Parsa Fallah also put up 24 points, four rebounds, and two assists.
Oregon State has a 19-9 record overall, but they have gone only 2-6 away from home. When favored, they have gone 16-2 straight up. The Beavers are a strong offensive team, averaging 76.8 points, while their defense is giving up 67.9 points per game. The offense gets the attention, but the strength of this team is actually the defense, and it’s what they leaned on in the first game against San Diego.
Why Oregon State Will Beat San Diego
- San Diego has lost each of its last 14 games against the West Coast Conference.
- Oregon State has won seven of its last eight day games against non-AP-ranked opponents.
San Diego is Awful
San Diego is awful; there really isn’t any other way to put it. San Diego has struggled to score, and they have struggled to defend as of late. Two games ago against Pepperdine, they were competitive but still lost 88-81. In the last game, there was no competition, and they lost to San Francisco 84-61. The worst part of the loss was it was in front of their home fans. The only real bright spot for San Diego was Kody Clouet, who scored 15 points and four rebounds. The defense gave up 42 points in each of the halves, and to have a chance in this game, the defense will need to be much better.
San Diego has only four wins this season, but three of those wins have come at home. San Diego’s offense averages 68.5 points per game, but even worse is the defense that is giving up 78.5 points per game. They like to push the pace and are actually attempting 60.5 field goals per game. They just aren’t very efficient with the shooting, and they put up a lot of bricks. One issue for this team is they are without their top player, Kjay Bradley Jr, who is dealing with a personal issue right now.
Oregon State vs San Diego Prediction
Has Oregon State found a whole lot of success on the road? Not at all, but don’t let that fool you, they are a much better team and they are going to have no issue getting the job done in this game. Without Bradley, San Diego just doesn’t have the offensive production. It doesn’t matter how many shots they chuck up when they miss as many shots as they do as a team. Oregon State will get another big game from Rataj, which will be enough. Oregon only has two wins on the road this season; they will make it three here. Oregon State will win this game and cover the spread.
