-Recent Betting trends and streaks involving Western Michigan

These two teams faced off on February 4th with Ohio securing the 94-69 victory.

Ohio is Gaining Confidence

Ohio is gaining confidence right now and has won two straight games. Two games ago against Central Michigan, they won 84-82; in the last game against Akron, they secured an 84-67 victory. They were up 43-29 at halftime, and in the second half, they continued with the same success. Jackson Paveletzke helped pace the team, putting up 21 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Three of the five starters finished with at least 18 points. Ohio is a team that wants to push the pace, and in three of the last four games, they have finished with at least 84 points. In the game, they didn’t have a strong offense, they still put up 75 points.

Ohio sits with a 15-12 record overall, and they have gone 11-15 against the spread. Ohio’s offense is 47th in college basketball, but the defense is 279th. In some games, the offense can make up for it, but a little more focus on the defensive end would also really help this squad. Aidan Hadaway is dealing with a leg injury and it’s unclear if he’s going to be back this season. AJ Clayton has been the top player, averaging 4.5 points while shooting 46.1 percent from the field. The offense needs to be balanced again here.

How Can Western Michigan  Bounce Back?

Western Michigan had won back-to-back games against Miami (OH), Ohio, and Buffalo heading into the last game. Western Michigan faced off Central Michigan, and the offense scored only 57 points while the defense gave up 86 points, and that led to the blowout defeat. They were down 46-27 at halftime, and the second half didn’t get any better. JaVaughn Hannah was the top player putting up 19 points, but the lack of playing any sort of defense really cost them.

Western Michigan has a 9-18 record, and they have gone 11-14-1 against the spread. The defense hasn’t been great for this team but the offense has been good for the most part, but also a bit inconsistent. They like to get a ton of shots up and they are averaging 67.2 field goals attempted per game which is 29th in all of college basketball. Chansey Willis Jr. has been the top player, averaging 16 points while shooting 42.1 percent.

Why Western Michigan Will Beat Ohio

  • Ohio has lost seven of its last eight games at University Arena against non-AP-ranked opponents.
  • Western Michigan has won seven of its last eight home games against Ohio.
  • Western Michigan has won the first half in each of its last four night games at University Arena against non-AP-ranked opponents.

Ohio vs Western Michigan Prediction

This is going to be one of the highest-scoring games of the day. Ohio is an elite offensive team, and the first time they faced off against Western Michigan this season, they scored 94 points. Western Michigan is averaging 72 points per game and will do better than they did in the first game against Ohio. These are both elite offense teams, and I am not sold on either team being all that interested in playing defense. The Over is 5-0 in Bobcat’s last 5 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400. That trend is going to continue again here. Back the over.
