TCU Horned Frogs Betting Preview

The Frogs started out on a shaky 2-2 run this year but they’ve been better lately. TCU lost to New Orleans and Michigan around wins over Saint Francis and Lamar in that first quartet. The next three games however, were all wins over Kansas City, Florida and Wisconsin. That would give TCU a 5-2 record over seven games in the first month of the season.

In the Notre Dame matchup on Friday, the Frogs took a tough overtime loss 87-85 at Schollmaier Arena. Leading the team in the losing effort was David Punch with 20 lints and seven boards. Jayden Pierre had 17 points with two assists and two rebounds, while Micah Robinson led the team off the bench on 13 points, four rebounds and four steals.

North Texas Mean Green Betting Preview

Over on the North Texas side, they were able to win their first three games of the year over New Mexico Highlands, Northwestern State and Loyola Chicago. Two losses followed versus Oregon State and Saint Mary’s but the Mean Green are 4-0 since then. Those four wins have come versus Central Arkansas, Eastern Washington, Prairie View and Houston Christian in succession. That gives the Green a 7-2 run across their first nine outings so far this year.

Matched up against Houston Christian on Tuesday, the Mean Green were able to escape with a 77-75 win in Denton. North Texas was led by Reece Robinson with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Je’Shawn Stevenson had 15 points with six assists in 33 minutes. Josiah Shackleford added 13 points and two rebounds in 16 minutes of work off the bench in the winning effort for the Mean Green as well.

TCU vs North Texas Prediction

I’ll lean toward North Texas, but you could call this one either way. The Mean Green have been cutting things very close lately, including their two-point win over Houston Christian. In that one North Texas shot a blistering 62 percent from the field with a 35-24 rebounding edge. That said, the Green also went just 9-of-19 (47 percent) from the line and ha 15 total turnovers. North Texas is sitting on four straight wins, but of their last three one came in overtime and the other two were decided by a combined five points.

As for TCU, they shot a solid 48 percent from the field and 41 percent (12-of-29) from outside in their overtime loss versus Notre Dame. The Frogs missed eight of their 23 free throws (65 percent) however, and got outmuscled on the boards 36-28 along the way. TCU has scored 74 or more points in four straight games (a 3-1 run) though, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see them bounce back here.

Andrew Jett's Pick: North Texas Mean Green +8.5
