North Florida vs Cal Baptist Prediction
I’m probably going to try North Florida in this one. The Ospreys had a pretty dismal campaign last year at 7-25 overall, but they retain three starters and should have some good chemistry right off the proverbial bat. Junior Kent Jackson (14.8 PPG) should be a focal point of the offense, and if the returning Gabe Jacobs (1.6 PPG in just 10 games) can stay healthy he’ll be a big contributor as well. This opener matchup marks the first of three opponents who made the NCAA Tournament last year matching up against the Ospreys over an eight-day span. We will quickly find out what North Florida is made of, and I think they’ll perform admirably.
As for Cal Baptist, they’re coming off their best Division I season in program history, making the NCAA Tournament for the first time following a Western Athletic Conference Tournament championship. You can expect the team to have a certain level of offensive freedom under new head coach Bobby Kennen, but the defense should be pretty rigid and stout. Losing all five starters from an NCAA Tournament team is tough though, and it may take a few games for the Lancers to feel out their new identity.

North Florida Ospreys Betting Preview
The Ospreys had a pretty forgettable campaign in 2025-26. North Florida limped to a rough 7-25 overall record and won just five of their 18 games in the Atlantic Sun Conference. With that finish the Ospreys landed ahead of only North Alabama (4-14) in the standings. North Florida had been picked to finish 11th in the ASUN preseason coaches poll however, so the prediction ended up being pretty spot-on. UNF was bounced by West Georgia in the first game of the ASUN Tournament.
We’ll be getting into head coach Bobby Kennen’s second year at the helm in 2026-27, and he’ll be eager to put last season’s run behind him quickly. The good news is that there are three starters back in the fold so North Florida won’t have to search too far for chemistry or identity this season. Junior Kent Jackson is the team’s leading returning scorer, with 14.8 PPG. He was second last season to the graduated Kamrin Oriole at 20.9 PPG in 2025-26.
Cal Baptist Lancers Betting Preview
Over on the Cal Baptist side, they posted a stellar run a season ago. The Lancers rolled to a 25-9 overall record with a 13-5 stretch in the Western Athletic Conference, which put the team behind only Utah Valley in the standings. Cal Baptist beat Utah Tech and Utah Valley for a WAC Tournament championship, then fell to Kansas 68-60 in the First Round of the national tourney.
This year the Lancers have a new head coach in Kyle Getter, who will have to start over with a fresh slate of starters. He loses the team’s top seven scorers, including WAC Player of the Year Dominique Daniels and his 23.2 PPG.
