North Dakota Fighting Hawks Betting Preview

The Hawks limped out of the gate this year, losing a third of their first 15 games at 5-10 overall. North Dakota has gotten better since then however, and they’ve managed to win five of the last seven outings. Those victories have come versus Dakota State, Oral Roberts, South Dakota, South Dakota State and Kansas City. Otherwise it’s been losses to Omaha and St. Thomas-MN for a 10-12 overall record.

In the South Dakota matchup over the weekend the Hawks were ahead 49-41 going into the second half. North Dakota hit a 47-39 run the rest of the way, leading to a solid 96-80 win at home. Leading the team in scoring was Greyson Uelmen with 26 points in 30 minutes. Both Eli King (six rebounds; six assists) and Anthony Smith (four rebounds; three assists) chipped in 15 points apiece.

Oral Roberts Golden Eagles Betting Preview

Over on the Oral Roberts side, they entered the season on a rough run themselves, going 5-7 over their first dozen outings. It’s been a long losing streak for the Eagles since then, as they’ve fallen to Missouri State, TCU, TX-Arlington, North Dakota, North Dakota State, St. Thomas-MN, Denver and Omaha since then in succession. Over 20 games so far Oral Roberts sits at 5-15 this year.

In the Saturday matchup with Omaha the Golden Eagles went into the locker room with a 36-30 deficit. Oral Roberts put up a 37-32 run the rest of the way, limping to a home loss 73-62 in the end. Ofri Naveh led the team on a double-double in the losing effort with 22 points, 13 rebounds and two assists in 33 minutes. Both Ty Harper and Connor Dow chipped in with 13 points apiece as well.

North Dakota vs Oral Roberts Prediction

I’ll stick with North Dakota but I’ll probably stay away from this one. There’s not a lot to get excited about here if you’re not a fan of either team. The Hawks played pretty well against a middling South Dakota team in their last outing, shooting 54.8 percent from the field and 46.2 percent (12-of-26) from outside along with a 35-25 rebounding edge, and 50-28 advantage on points in the paint and just five turnovers. Really the only complaints were the 47.2 percent shooting allowed on defense and the 4-of-7 (57.1 percent) at the line. North Dakota is 5-2 in their last seven games and scoring well with 72 or more points in each of those outings.

As for Oral Roberts they shot just 38.8 percent from the field with 11 turnovers in their most recent loss to Omaha. the Eagles have lost eight straight games now, giving up 69 or more points in each of the last seven.

Andrew Jett's Pick: North Dakota Fighting Hawks -1.5
