North Carolina Central Betting Preview

The Eagles opened back on Monday versus NC State in a road matchup. NC Central was trailing big 54-26 by halftime and limped to the finish line on a 60-40 deficit in a blowout loss 114-66. Tops in scoring was Gage Lattimore with 20 points, two assists and one rebound in 40 minutes of work. Khouri Carvey added 19 points with eight boards and one assist as the only other Eagles player to finish in double-figures during the losing effort.

In game two Friday versus Virginia, the Eagles were trailing big by the break 42-25. NC Central didn’t end up getting any closer than that on a 39-37 second half and lost 81-62 in the end. Leading the scoring during the defeat was Gage Lattimore with 25 points, three assists and three rebounds. Khouri Carvey added 16 points with 11 rebounds and four assists for a double-double in the losing effort for the Eagles.

Appalachian State Mountaineers Betting Preview

Over on the Mountaineers’ side, they’ve got two games in the bag so far as well. App State kicked things off on Monday with a game against Central Michigan. The Mountaineers were down 38-26 by the end of the first half and didn’t end up getting any closer on a 44-40 run in the second for an 82-66 loss. Leading the way in scoring was Kasen Jennings with 21 points, six rebounds and three assists. Alonzo Dodd chipped in with 11 points and four rebounds alongside four assists in 19 minutes as the only other App State player in double-digits.

Matched up against Piedmont International in game two, App State got their first victory of the year. The Mountaineers were up 53-13 by the break and cruised to a 92-46 win on a 39-27 second half. Leading the way in the winning effort was Luke Wilson with 14 points and three rebounds in 15 minutes of work. Jennings added 13 points with two assists in 13 minutes, and both Michael Marcus (five rebounds) and Eren Banks (three rebounds) had 10 points apiece.

North Carolina Central vs Appalachian State Prediction

I’ll lean toward Appalachian State I suppose. The Mountaineers didn’t start out the year very well in the Central Michigan game, shooting just 35.6 percent from the field and 14-of-29 (48.3 percent) from the line alongside a 40-22 deficit in the paint. If there’s good news it’s that App State had just seven turnovers and a reasonable 13 team assists in the blowout loss. Game two went much better versus an overmatched Piedmont International team (obviously), as the Mountaineers shot a nice 51.5 percent with 40 rebounds. The foul shooting was still pretty ugly though (16-of-26 for 61.5 percent).

As for NC Central, they weren’t able to hang around with Virginia despite doing well from the foul line (18-of-22 for 81.8 percent) and 3-point range (6-of-14 for 42.9 percent) in the defeat on Friday. The Eagles shot just 31.7 percent from the floor and had a 44-30 rebounding deficit. NC Central is going to have to push the issue up front if they want to power out a cover here.
