Over on the Manhattan side, they managed to go 3-2 over the first five games of the year. The Jaspers would lose six of the next seven versus Texas A&M, Wagner, Army, Marist, Fordham and Furman, however. Manhattan took wins over Presbyterian, Rider and Quinnipiac in the next three, then lost to Merrimack to give the team a 7-9 overall record in their first 16 games of the season.
Matched up against Canisius in the Friday game the Jaspers were hanging on to a 32-28 halftime lead. Manhattan was outscored 42-32 the rest of the way though, resulting in a 70-64 loss in the end. Manhattan was led by Terrance Jones with 15 points and six rebounds. Jaden Winston added 12 points and Fraser Roxburgh put up a double-double on 10 points and 10 rebounds.

I’ll stick with Manhattan but I’m probably not touching this one. The Jaspers hit nine of their 10 free throws in the loss to Canisius on Friday, but shot just 39.3 percent from the field. The 42-33 rebounding deficit and 40-32 disadvantage on points in the paint didn’t help matters either. Manhattan has scored just 130 combined points in their last two games, following a three-game stretch (all wins) with 74 or more points scored in each.
As for Niagara, they shot a dismal 33.3 percent from the field with a 40-27 rebounding deficit and 22.2 percent (6-of-27) from outside in their latest loss to a pretty good Iona team. The Eagles have lost consecutive games now, and they’ve scored fewer than 65 points in two of their last three outings.
