NC State Wolfpack Betting Preview

The Wolfpack opened up the season on a nice run but they’ve been spotty lately. NC State won their first four outings of the year, dispatching North Carolina Central, UAB, UNC Greensboro and VCU in that stretch. Since then however, it’s been a 1-2 run. The lone win was over Boise State, in between losses to Seton Hall and Texas in that time. That gives the Wolfpack a 5-2 record overall in their first seven outings of the year.

In the matchup last Wednesday versus Texas, the Wolfpack faced a 10-point deficit by halftime. NC State got better from there on a 60-55 run but still lost in the end 102-97. Leading the team in scoring was Quadir Copeland with 28 points, six assists and four rebounds while Van-Allen Lubin put up 23 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Paul McNeil added 20 points and three rebounds in the losing effort as well.

Auburn Tigers Betting Preview

Over on the Auburn side, they’ve got a couple of blemishes on the schedule as well but overall haven’t been doing too badly. The Tigers beat Bethune-Cookman, Merrimack and Wofford right out of the gate before a tight loss to Houston. After wins versus Jackson State and Oregon, Auburn took another loss to Michigan. Following a victory versus Saint John’s last week, Auburn now stands at a solid 6-2 in their first eight outings of the season.

Matched up against St. John’s last Wednesday, the Tigers came out of the break with a 39-20 deficit. Auburn surged from there on a 55-35 second half however, and took the victory in the end 85-74. Leading the team in scoring was Tahaad Pettiford with 27 points, four rebounds and two assists. Keyshawn Hall added 20 points with eight boards and four assists while Kevin Overton had 12 points with five assists and three boards.

NC State vs Auburn Prediction

I’m going to stay with the Tigers. Auburn is looking pretty darn good these days and coming off a nice second half in their win over a great St. John’s squad. The Tigers shot 54.7 percent from the field in that one with 21-of-25 (84 percent) from the line and a 31-26 rebounding edge. Auburn held the Storm to just 38.3 percent shooting on the other side. It was a nice bounce-back effort following a blowout loss to an excellent Michigan team. Auburn’s only other loss was by just one point to Houston—a similarly talented school.

As for NC State, they got better in the second half in the Texas game but eventually got outplayed thanks to a 31-25 rebounding deficit and eight missed free throws (20-of-28 for 71.4 percent). The Longhorns shot 55.8 percent from the other side with 16-of-32 on 3-pointers and 28-of-33 (84.8 percent) at the line during a hot offensive day. NC State is playing pretty well overall this season and should give Auburn some solid competition.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Auburn Tigers -5.5
