Missouri Tigers Betting Preview

Missouri has been a pretty consistent team this year, with just one instance of consecutive losses so far. The Tigers opened things up with a 10-1 run featuring a lone loss to Memphis in the opener, then fell to Illinois and Auburn (with a win over Alabama State) in the next three. Missouri would beat LSU, Vanderbilt, Florida, Arkansas, Ole Miss and Mississippi State (with a lone loss to Texas) in the next seven, then fell to Tennessee and Texas A&M. Since then it’s been a 4-1 run with a loss to Arkansas among wins over Oklahoma, Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina otherwise. That gives the Tigers a 21-7 overall run through 28 games this year.

In the South Carolina home matchup back on Tuesday, the Tigers came out of the locker room with a dominant 52-37 edge. Missouri kept it up from there with a 49-34 run, cruising to the win 101-71. Caleb Grill led the team with 22 points, five rebounds, four steals and two assists off the bench. Anthony Robinson was tops among starters with 14 points, eight assists, two rebounds and two steals.

Vanderbilt Commodores Betting Preview

Over on the Vanderbilt side, they started out the season on a great run but things have been rocky since early January amid some tough matchups on the schedule. The Commodores rolled to a 13-1 start across their first 14 outings, falling to only Drake on November 24. A 4-5 stretch came next with wins over South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky and Texas mixed among losses to Mississippi State, Missouri, Alabama, Oklahoma and Florida. After losses to Auburn, Tennessee and Kentucky, the Commodores have since beaten Ole Miss and Texas A&M for a 19-9 overall record across 28 games.

In the Texas A&M matchup on the road Wednesday, the Commodores came out of the locker room with a slim 34-32 edge. Vanderbilt hit a 52-52 run the rest of the way and powered out the win in the end 86-84. Tyler Nickel led the team on 21 points, while MJ Collins had 16 points with four rebounds and two assists off the bench. Jason Edwards chipped in 15 points with one assist in 23 minutes of work as well.

  • Each of Missouri’s last four games have produced a total of 161+ points.

Missouri vs Vanderbilt Prediction

I’ll lean toward Vanderbilt here, but we should have a pretty good matchup on our hands. The Commodores have completed five straight games against ranked teams, and they’ve got one more to go. The Texas A&M matchup worked out well, as Vanderbilt powered out a nice road win despite getting outmuscled on the boards 44-36. The Commodores held the Aggies to just 37.1 percent shooting on the other side. That makes consecutive wins for Vanderbilt with a combined 163 points scored in those.

The Commodores took a 75-66 road loss the last time these teams met up on January 11. Vanderbilt started pretty slowly in that one and ended up shooting just 40.4 percent from the field with a 33-29 rebounding deficit and 14 turnovers. If the Commodores can control their mistakes in the home rematch I think they can potentially pull off the upset. It’ll be a great game to watch regardless.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Vanderbilt Commodores +2.5
