Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils Betting Preview

It’s been a rough season so far for the Delta Devils. MS Valley State opened on a 1-7 run with losses to Iowa State, Missouri, Texas, Kansas State, BYU, Utah, and UC Santa Barbara. After a win over Oakwood came another losing streak. Those defeats were versus Liberty, North Texas, Tulsa, LSU, Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Prairie View A&M, Texas Southern, Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, Grambling, and Southern. Mississippi Valley State finally got another win on February 1 versus AR-Pine Bluff, which gave the Delta Devils a 3-19 overall run through their first 22 games of the 2024-25 season.

In their Saturday matchup with Jackson State, the Delta Devils were demolished in the first half 40-21. MS Valley State fell even further behind in the second half on a 52-23 deficit, eventually losing 92-44 in the end. No one on the team finished in double-figures. High among starters was Donovan Sanders, who scored seven points and two assists. Both Jonathan Pace (five rebounds) and Moses Horne (one rebound) chipped in seven bench points each as well.

Alcorn State Braves Betting Preview

Over on the Alcorn State side, they opened the year on an ugly slide but they’ve been doing better since mid-January. The Braves fell to Utah, Utah State, Xavier LA, Tulane, TCU, Washington, UC Riverside, South Alabama, Maryland, Wichita State, Oklahoma, Rice, UAB, and Jackson State in their first 14 games of the season. The next eight outings were a much-improved 5-3 run, though. The losses came versus Texas Southern, Florida A&M, and Southern. Otherwise, it was wins over Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Prairie View, Bethune Cookman, and Grambling. The result through the first 22 games of the year for the Braves was a 5-17 overall record in the books.

Matched up against AR-Pine Bluff on Saturday, the Braves jumped out to a 37-27 edge by the break. Alcorn State rode a 42-33 run the rest of the way and took the eventual win 79-60. Leading the way was Marcus Tankersley, who scored 15 points and two assists. Michael Pejeaud added 12 points with 12 rebounds, one steal, and two assists. Davian Williams chipped in with 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists in 32 minutes of action. Jalyke Gaines-Wyatt had 11 points with five rebounds and six assists as well.

  • Alcorn State has lost seven of its last nine night games against non-AP-ranked opponents.

MS Valley State vs Alcorn State Prediction

I’ll lean toward Alcorn State. The line’s probably too thick to mess with, though. The Braves didn’t have too many issues with a struggling AR-Pine Bluff team on Saturday. Alcorn State held the Lions to just 35.4 percent shooting with 13 points off 11 turnovers. The Braves shot 47.2 percent from the field themselves alongside a 43-33 rebounding advantage. That said, Alcorn State did cough up 16 turnovers themselves, which turned into 19 UAPB points. It was a pretty sloppy game overall. All of that said, the Braves have been playing pretty well over this 3-1 run, hitting 69 or more points in three of those four games. I like Alcorn State to keep it going on Monday with another decent performance.
