Michigan Wolverines Betting Preview

Michigan has been playing quite well this year overall. The Wolverines were able to get wins in each of their first 14 games before their first loss to Wisconsin on January 10. After that came victories over Washington, Oregon, Indiana, Ohio State, Nebraska and Michigan State in the next six. That would give the Wolverines a 20-1 record across their first 21 outings of the year.

In the Penn State game on Thursday the Wolverines waltzed through the first half on a strong 56-24 advantage. After the break, Michigan kept it going with a 54-45 run, eventually taking a blowout victory on their home floor 110-69 in the end. Nimari Burnett put up 31 points with five rebounds in the victory, while three other Wolverines players turned in 12 points apiece.

Over on the Buckeyes’ side, they were able to win their first half-dozen outings but then lost three of the next five matchups against Pittsburgh, Illinois and North Carolina. Ohio State hit a 3-2 run in the next five outings with losses to Nebraska and Washington. After that the Buckeyes went 3-2 over the next five with wins over UCLA, Minnesota and Penn State alongside losses to Michigan and Wisconsin. Through the first 21 games Ohio State had a 14-7 record in the books.

Matched up against Maryland on Thursday the Buckeyes jumped out to a pretty comfortable 42-30 advantage by the end of the first half. Ohio State kept it going from there on a 40-32 run, eventually powering out the 20-point road victory 82-62. Michigan vs Ohio State Prediction

I’ll just stay with Michigan. The Wolverines didn’t have too many issues in their latest win at home over Penn State. Michigan shot a sweltering 60.6 percent from the field in that one, alongside 51.7 percent (15-of-29) from outside and 88.2 percent (15-of-17) from the line. The Wolverines added a 50-36 advantage in the paint, a 39-19 edge on the boards and just nine turnovers. That makes seven straight victories since the Wisconsin defeat on January 10.

These teams last saw each other on January 23 in a 74-62 home win for Michigan. In that one the Wolverines shot a nice 51.9 percent from the field but also went just 21.7 percent (5-of-23) from 3-point range and 60 percent (15-of-25) from the line. The 14 turnovers didn’t help matters, but Michigan balanced things out with a 35-20 edge on rebounding and just 40.7 percent shooting allowed on defense. This road rematch will be a little trickier but I think the Wolverines are in a good position nonetheless.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Michigan Wolverines -9
