Miami-OH RedHawks Betting Preview

It’s been a nice run for the RedHawks so far; they’re yet to record a blemish this year. Miami-OH opened with wins over Old Dominion and Trinity Christian IL, then took out Air Force and Mercyhurst. Wins in the next pair over AR-Pine Bluff and UNC Greensboro were followed by two more victories over Indiana University East and Maine. Over eight games so far that gives Miami-OH a sterling 8-0 record this year.

In the Maine matchup on Saturday, the RedHawks were up by 18 points at the break. Miami-OH followed that up with a 45-31 second-half run and took the win in the end 93-61. Tops in scoring was Evan Ipsaro with 24 points and four assists while Eian Elmer added 16 points and six rebounds. Almar Orsi Atlason added 10 points with four rebounds and two assists in 16 minutes for the RedHawks as well.

UNC Asheville Bulldogs Betting Preview

Over on the UNC Asheville side, they’ve had mixed results so far this season. The Bulldogs limped to a 2-4 start over their first half dozen outings, beating only Lipscomb and Bryan TN among losses to Wichita State, Georgia Southern, Western Carolina and Tennessee State. UNC Asheville would then beat App State and UNC Greensboro in consecutive games before another loss to NC State. Over nine games so far that gives the Bulldogs a 4-5 overall record this season.

Matched up against NC State over the weekend, the Bulldogs were within two points at the break. UNC Asheville didn’t get any closer than that however, hitting a 40-30 deficit in the second for a 75-63 loss. Kameron Taylor topped the team with 20 points, four assists and seven rebounds. Justin Wright added 16 points with six boards and DJ Patrick had 15 points with six rebounds and three assists in the losing effort for the Bulldogs.

Miami-OH vs UNC Asheville Prediction

I’ll stay with the RedHawks I suppose. Miami-OH blitzed a winless Maine team in their last outing, hitting a cool 5.7 percent from the field, 43.8 percent (14-of-32) from outside and 11-of-13 (84.6 percent) from the line alongside a dominant 37-24 rebounding edge and 22 team assists. The Bears’ 20 turnovers turned into 12 steals for Miami-OH, but the RedHawks also coughed up 15 turnovers themselves. That gives Miami-OH 76 or more points in all eight games so far this year.

As for UNC Asheville, they couldn’t keep pace with NC State in their last game and took a double-digit loss. The Bulldogs shot just 37 percent from the field in that one but didn’t play too badly otherwise—outside of the 40-14 deficit in the paint, anyway. UNC Asheville will have another tricky matchup on Wednesday.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Miami-OH RedHawks -3.5
