We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Miami vs Virginia pick. We will examine the recent form and player performances for both teams, as well as the recent betting trends and streaks pertaining to this matchup. Miami Hurricanes Betting Preview

The Hurricanes kicked off their season with a 15-2 run then lost three of the next five versus Clemson, Florida State and California. A 7-1 run came next for Miami as they dispatched Boston College, North Carolina, NC State, Virginia Tech, Florida State, Boston College and SMU. After a loss to Louisville, the Hurricanes beat the Cards in the rematch for a 25-7 run this year.

In the tournament game versus Louisville on Thursday the Canes were sitting in the locker room looking up at a one-point deficit on the scoreboard. Miami hit a 41-35 advantage in the second half however, eventually powering out the victory 78-73 to keep their tournament run going. Malik Reneau was the leading team scorer in the win with 24 points and six boards alongside three steals.

Virginia Cavaliers Betting Preview

Over on the Cavs’ side, they were sitting at 16-3 and coming off a loss to North Carolina back on January 24. Virginia took wins over Notre Dame, Boston College, Pitt, Syracuse, Florida State, Ohio State, Georgia Tech, Miami and NC State after that, then lost to Duke. It’s been wins over Wake Forest, Virginia Tech and NC State since then for a 28-4 run so far this year.

In the NC State game on Thursday in tournament action, the Cavaliers came back out onto the floor in the second half with a 33-32 edge. Virginia finished off the game on a 48-42 run and powered out the win in the end 81-74 as time ran out. The Cavaliers’ leading scorer was Malik Thomas on 16 points, while Thijs De Ridder added 15 points and five rebounds in 28 minutes.

Miami vs Virginia Prediction

I’ll stick with Virginia. The Cavaliers got past a good NC State team on Thursday thanks to 47.5 percent shooting from the field and 48 percent (12-of-25) from outside. The 32-25 rebounding edge and 30-16 advantage in the paint helped, as did the 36.8 percent shooting allowed on defense. Virginia has won three straight games now (scoring 75 or more points in each) and 12 of the last 13 overall.

These teams last saw each other back on February 21 in an 86-83 home win for Virginia. In that one the Cavaliers shot extremely well: 58 percent from the field, 50 percent (12-of-24) from outside and 88.9 percent (16-of-18) from the line. Virginia did get outscored in the paint 40-30 however, and gave up 47.5 percent shooting on defense. This rematch should be a close, competitive game as well and really could go either way. It’ll be a fun one to watch.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Virginia Cavaliers -4.5
