Memphis Tigers Betting Preview
The Tigers beat San Francisco in their first game this year but would fall versus Ole Miss, UNLV, Purdue and Wake Forest in the next four. Memphis took out Southern Illinois, New Orleans and Baylor in succession over their ensuing three outings before another loss versus Louisville last weekend. That would give the Tigers a 4-5 run across their first nine outings this year.
In the Vanderbilt matchup on Wednesday, the Tigers were down by six at halftime. Memphis fought back in the second to force overtime but eventually lost a tough one 77-70 in the end. Leading the team in scoring were Dug McDaniel (five rebounds; four assists) and Sincere Parker (seven rebounds), each with 18 points. Hasan Abdul Hakim doubled up on 13 points with 10 rebounds in the win as well.
Mississippi State Bulldogs Betting Preview
Over on the Mississippi State side, they went just 2-3 in their first five games with wins over North Alabama and SE Louisiana mixed with losses versus Iowa State, Kansas State and New Mexico. Since then it’s been a 4-2 run with losses to SMU and San Francisco amid wins over New Orleans, Georgia Tech, Utah and Long Island U, giving the Bulldogs a 6-5 run across 11 games so far.
In the Long Island University matchup on Tuesday, the Bulldogs entered the break with a one-point edge. Mississippi State hit 48 more points from there, powering out a close 87-83 win. Josh Hubbard led the scoring with 34 points, four assists and two rebounds, and Jayden Epps added 20 points with four rebounds. Memphis vs Mississippi State Prediction
I’ll stay with Memphis. The Tigers shot just 35.9 percent from the field and 4-of-20 (20 percent) from outside in their latest OT loss to a good Vanderbilt team, and also coughed up a whopping 19 turnovers. That said, Memphis was very close to an upset win at home in that one. The Tigers have managed 70 or more points in five straight games now, though this week’s loss was buoyed by an overtime period. Still, if Memphis can reach those heights on the scoreboard Saturday they’ll be in good shape.
As for Mississippi State, they barely got by a pesky LIU team in their last outing. The Bulldogs shot 46.7 percent from the field in that one with a 36-30 rebounding edge and 32 point in the paint alongside just nine turnovers. Mississippi State did allow 47.1 percent shooting on the other side, though. The Bulldogs are scoring well this year; they’ve got 75 or more points in all but one game so far (62 in a loss to San Francisco). If Mississippi State can keep that run going, they’ll give Memphis some trouble.
