Maine Black Bears Betting Preview
There have been a couple of ugly stretches for the Black Bears in the record column this year so far, but overall they’re not doing too badly. Maine managed an 8-5 start to the season then took losses to Stony Brook, Boston U, and Bryant in the next trio. Wins over Binghamton, Albany, NJIT, UMBC, UMass Lowell, New Hampshire, NJIT, and UMBC (with a loss to Vermont) came over the next nine outings, then losses to Vermont, Albany, Binghamton, and Bryant over the next five. Since then it’s been a pair of consecutive wins over UMass Lowell for the Bears, giving them a 19-13 overall run through 32 games so far this season.
In the Saturday installment versus UMass Lowell, the Black Bears entered the second half with a 34-29 edge. Maine kept it up from there with a 38-35 run and took the victory 72-64 in the end. Tops in scoring was Kellen Tynes with 20 points, five rebounds, six assists, and three steals. Both Jaden Clayton (four rebounds) and AJ Lopez (two rebounds) chipped in with 16 points apiece, and Quion Burns had 11 points with three rebounds in the win.
Vermont Catamounts Betting Preview
Over on the Vermont side, they started out the season on a rough run but they’ve been playing much better since the calendar flipped over to 2025. The Catamounts limped to a 6-8 record over their first 14 outings, then beat Elms College, New Hampshire, UMass Lowell, Binghamton, and NJIT in the next six games. Losses to UMBC and Binghamton came next, but since then it’s been wins over Maine, Albany, New Hampshire, Maine, Bryant, UMass Lowell, NJIT, UMBC, Albany, and New Hampshire in succession. In total over 32 games that gives the Catamounts a 21-11 overall record so far.
Matched up against New Hampshire at home on Saturday, the Catamounts were in trouble at halftime facing a 34-26 deficit. Vermont came back from there with a vengeance, posting a 38-23 run on the way to a comeback victory 64-57. leading the way was TJ Hurley with 18 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Ileri Ayo-Faleye doubled up with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the victory as well, while Nick Fiorillo chipped in 10 points in 37 minutes.

Maine vs Vermont Prediction
I’ll lean toward Vermont. The Catamounts are on a nice run lately and playing well. In their weekend win over New Hampshire, Vermont started slowly but ended up shooting 52.1 percent from the field with a 36-24 rebounding advantage. The 13 turnovers really hampered the Catamounts though—especially early. Still, it was a solid comeback win to extend the streak to 10 games.
Vermont managed to win both matchups between these teams this year—both within the win streak. First was a 55-49 home win on February 1, then a 65-61 road victory two weeks later. The Catamounts weren’t exactly overwhelming on offense in that road win, but still pulled off 47.9 percent from the floor. If Vermont can keep a lid on the turnovers in this third matchup (they had 12 in the road win), I like the Catamounts to notch another victory in a tournament setting.
