Maine Black Bears Betting Preview
The Black Bears opened their season last Monday versus George Washington in a road matchup. Maine was within four points at the half in that one, but scored just 22 points from there in a loss 67-47 in the end. Topping the team in the losing effort was TJ Biel with 13 points and seven rebounds in 31 minutes. The only other player on the team to finish in double-digits was Ace Flagg with 10 points, three rebounds and one assist in 29 minutes of game time.
In game two versus Stony Brook on Saturday, the Black Bears were within one point 38-37 by the break. Maine was outscored 33-23 the rest of the way however, resulting in a 71-60 loss in the end. Leading the way for the scorers on the team was Ryan Mabrey with 14 points and seven boards in the defeat. Bashir N’Galang was also in double-digits with 11 points and three rebounds in 19 minutes of work on the floor.
Rutgers Scarlet Knights Betting Preview
Over on the Rutgers side, they were able to equal their 15 wins from the 2023-24 campaign last year, eventually finishing 15-17 overall with an 8-12 run in a very crowded and tough Big Ten. That would put the Knights ahead of Minnesota, Northwestern, USC, Iowa, Nebraska, Penn State and Washington in the standings—near the middle of the pack overall. Rutgers took losses to Michigan and Purdue in their final three games (with a win over Minnesota) and took on USC in the first game of the Big Ten Tournament. That matchup turned into a wild double-overtime loss 97-89 however, as the Knights’ season ended on March 12 for good.
This year Rutgers has just one game in the bag so far. The Knights kicked things off on Wednesday versus Rider and played pretty well. Rutgers was up 35-24 by the half and cruised from there on a 46-29 run for an 81-53 victory. Leading the team in scoring was Tariq Francis with 20 points, four rebounds and two assists. Dylan Grant added 17 points with seven boards, and Jamichael Davis had 15 points with six rebounds and three assists in the winning effort.

Maine vs Rutgers Prediction
I’ll stay with Rutgers I suppose. I’m probably not touching this one though. The Knights were able to beat Rider handily in their opener—but it wasn’t pretty. Rutgers shot a tepid 39.1 percent from the field and 63.6 percent (21-of-33) from the line along with slim edges in rebounding (43-41) and points in the paint (28-26). The Knights were buoyed by a dismal shooting performance by the Broncs: 27.7 percent from the field and 2-of-20 (10 percent) from 3-point range alongside 13 turnovers.
As for Maine, they didn’t shoot great from outside (3-of-15 for 20 percent) or the line (15-of-25 for 60 percent) in their loss to Stony Brook over the weekend, and also got outmuscled on the boards 37-31. The Black Bears are going to have a hard time keeping pace with Rutgers in any meaningful way if they continue to play like that. In the end I’m probably staying away from this game, though.
