Loyola Marymount Lions Betting Preview

The Lions have three games in the books so far this season. The opening matchup came last Monday versus Lincoln CA and the Lions dominated. Loyola Marymount didn’t have any difficulties in that one, powering out a dominant 137-54 blowout victory. Leading the way was Aaron McBride with 20 points, six rebounds and two assists. Nakyel Shelton added 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the victory effort as well.

As for game two, LMU played Eastern Washington on Wednesday. In that one the Lions held a modest 32-29 halftime lead then hit a 38-33 run in the second half to secure a 70-62 win in the end at home. This time the top scorer was MJ Amey with 22 points and two boards. Jan Vide added 11 points and seven assists, while both Jalen Shelley (10 points; 12 rebounds) and McBride (10 points; 11 rebounds) doubled up in 33 minutes of work.

LMU took on Arkansas-Pine Bluff in their third outing back on Saturday. After a 38-31 halftime edge, the Lions cruised on a 56-41 run in the second half on the way to a 94-72 win. Leading the team in scoring was Rodney Brown with 28 points, three boards and three assists. Jan Vide had a double-double with 15 points and 11 assists, while Jalen Shelley had 13 points with six rebounds and three assists in 21 minutes during the winning effort for the Lions.

UTEP Miners Betting Preview

Over on the Miners’ side, they’ve only played two games so far this year. The opener came last Monday versus UTPB. In that one UTEP went into the second half sporting a 44-32 edge. The Miners cruised on a 54-24 second half and took the victory in the end 98-56 in blowout fashion. Leading team scorer Kaseem Watson had 18 points with eight boards, and Elijah Jones added 13 points with two rebounds. Both LA Hayes and Jamal West (eight rebounds) scored 11 points apiece in the win for the Miners as well.

In game two back on Friday versus Western New Mexico it was more of the same for the Miners. UTEP was up 52-27 by halftime and closed with 55 more points in a 107-70 win. Loyola Marymount vs UTEP Prediction

I’ll stick with the Lions. Loyola Marymount has looked pretty good through three wins so far and they’re coming off a competent effort versus a struggling AR-Pine Bluff team in their last outing. LMU shot 48.4 percent from the field with just six turnovers in that one, however they got bullied up front on a 36-34 rebounding deficit and a 44-24 disadvantage in the paint. The 57.1 percent free throw shooting wasn’t great either. Still, that makes 70 or more points in all three games thus far; if Loyola Marymount can keep that streak going here they should be in decent shape. UTEP has a couple of easy wins in the bag so far and this game will give us a good idea of where the Miners stand in the early-going this season.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Loyola Marymount Lions -2.5
