Over on the Richmond side, they were 13-5 over their first 18 games this year then hit a losing streak versus Saint Louis, Rhode Island, George Washington, VCU, Davidson and Rhode Island. I’ll lean toward Richmond but I’m not touching it. The Spiders had a pretty ugly second half in the loss to Duquesne, despite shooting an eventual 63.8 percent from the field and 60 percent (12-of-20) from outside. Richmond had a 29-19 rebounding deficit though, and got outscored in the paint 42-26. The 16 turnovers for 28 Dukes points didn’t help either. The Spiders are just 1-5 in the last six games with fewer than 68 points scored in four of those.
These teams last saw each other on February 28 in a 69-66 road loss for Richmond. In that game the Spiders shot an abysmal 29.8 percent from the field with a 37-22 rebounding deficit and 20 points off 14 Loyola turnovers. Richmond won’t be able to rely on mistakes this time around, and they’ve got to get that shooting percentage elevated.
