Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Betting Preview

The Cajuns started out the year with a 70-66 loss to Kent State, but that’s really the only close game they’ve played all year so far. Game two was a blowout win over Texas-Dallas 82-65, then came a 91-45 loss to Houston.

Matched up against Rice on Tuesday, Louisiana took another blowout defeat. The Cajuns were within one point at halftime 41-40 but then fell behind 42-21 the rest of the way in an 83-61 outcome. Michael Thomas was tops on 17 points with three rebounds in the defeat.

Liberty Flames Betting Preview

Over on the Liberty side, they were able to win their first three games this year. Those victories came 83-63 versus Valparaiso, 66-64 against Seattle and 81-45 over Carolina. Game four was a loss 77-74 against Florida Atlantic.

In the Charleston game on Sunday, the Flames took a 29-29 tie into the second half. Liberty got moving from there on a 39-18 run and took the win 68-47 in the end. Leading the way was Zach Cleveland with 20 points and five rebounds.

Why the Liberty Flames will win

  • Liberty has won four of its last five games against non-AP-ranked opponents.
  • Louisiana has lost each of its last three games against non-conference opponents.
  • Liberty has won the first half in 35 of its last 46 night games against non-AP-ranked opponents.

Why the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns will win

  • Louisiana has won eight of its last 10 games against non-AP-ranked opponents at a neutral venue.
  • Liberty has lost four of its last five night games against non-AP-ranked opponents.

Louisiana vs Liberty Prediction

I’ll probably just stay with Liberty here, even though it’s a pretty thick line. The Flames have looked pretty good in their wins so far, with 81 or more points in two of four and 66 or more points in all of them. Liberty started out pretty slowly versus Charleston but eventually got going on 52 percent shooting. The 15 turnovers were a major blemish, though.

As for Louisiana, they struggled to 35.7 percent shooting and a 45-29 rebounding deficit in their latest loss to Rice but did take care of the ball (five turnovers). The Cajuns have 66 or fewer points in three of four games though (all losses), so I don’t think they’ll keep a cover pace here.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Liberty Flames -11.5
