Longwood Lancers Betting Preview
Longwood took a bit of a step back in 2024-25, going 18-14 overall. The Lancers’ effort in the Big South wasn’t great, as the team went 7-9 to finish ahead of only Charleston Southern, Gardner-Webb and USC Upstate in the standings. Longwood lost seven of their final nine games in the regular season, then took an 88-79 loss to Winthrop in the Big South Tournament, ending their season for good on March 7.
The Lancers got off to a good start this year with a matchup versus Mary Baldwin on Monday. In that one Longwood hit a 44-34 run in the first half and cruised to the 92-55 win on the strength of a 48-21 advantage in the second half. Leading the scoring was Johan Nziemi with 16 points and nine rebounds. Jacoi Hutchinson added 15 points in 22 minutes and Jaylen Benard had 14 points with nine rebounds in the win. Also in double-figures was Elijah Tucker with 11 points, eight rebounds and two assists in 21 minutes of work during the victory.
Pittsburgh Panthers Betting Preview
Over on the Pittsburgh side, they put up a pretty tepid effort last season but it wasn’t too bad considering the strength of their conference. The Panthers went 17-15 overall with an 8-12 run in the ACC. That would put Pitt ahead of only Syracuse, California, NC State, Boston College and Miami in the standings. After a four-game losing streak in February and March, the Panthers took out Boston College in the final game of the regular season. In the first game of the ACC Tournament Pittsburgh fell in a low-scoring game 55-54 versus Notre Dame. The Panthers would decline an invitation to the NIT and their season ended there.
Pittsburgh took on Youngstown State in their opener on Monday and went into the locker room with a modest 34-28 edge. The Panthers hit a 40-31 run from there and rode to the 74-59 victory, though. Topping the scorers was Cameron Corden with 23 points and 12 boards. Brandin Cummings added 18 points in 31 minutes of action and Nojus Indrusaitis put up 13 points with four rebounds in 31 minutes on the floor during the victory.

Longwood vs Pittsburgh Prediction
I’ll lean toward Pittsburgh but I’m not terribly excited about it. The Panthers took care of Youngstown State well enough in their opener thanks to a 42-21 rebounding edge and a nice 22-of-27 (81.5 percent) from the line. The 16 turnovers were a bit sloppy however, and Pitt had a modest 30-24 advantage in the paint. The Panthers should be in position for another smooth victory in this one, provided they can keep up the physicality.
As for Longwood, they dominated an overmatched Mary Baldwin team in their opener. The Lancers didn’t shoot well from 3-point range (2-of-9 for 22.2 percent) and had 20 turnovers but otherwise did just fine. Longwood had a 48-17 rebounding edge and a 54-16 advantage in the paint. That said, Pittsburgh is going to be a much tougher opponent obviously. I don’t think the Lancers will get into a cover if the Panthers play to their capabilities.
